When Tony De Vit was teaching fergie he used to listen to him but if he saw him touch the plate (speed itup or slow it does) he'd make him start again... he only ever used the pitch control.
I used to be able to do that on my old Vestax, it's actually not as awkward as it sounds (providing you've cued up properly), and you benefit from not getting that really noticable short change in pitch as you try and synchronise the beats, but I've tried it on cheaper decks (Kams, soundlabs) and obviously it's not as precise.

Crabbing is a method of scratching whereby you move the record back & forth whilst 'bouncing' the cross fader against your thumb with each of your fingers in turn, which creates a very fast 'cutting' effect. Pretty tough to learn, I wasn't willing to put in the hours to be honest.....

Curiously enough, one of my favourite artsts is a French chap called Vitalic, who does techno / electronic music... he released an album recently called OK Cowboy in which EVERYTHING is synthesized ... guitars, voices, organs, drums etc.

Is no-one capable of having an adult conversation on here any more without turning the air blue?

For my twopennyworth, a DJ is a person who selects music and plays it to an audience who enjoy themselves while listening/dancing/singing along to it.

I couldn't give a rats what methods they use in order to achieve it; just as long as they turn up and do it! My only strong feeling on this is that the person employed as said DJ shouldn't be sneaking away from his/her 'work' and playing fruities.

End of rant and hopefully end of childish name-calling.
