Good to have you back DMAC. I've not seen this particular error yet, although if it is a cynical anti-pro device I probably don't have the playing pattern needed to trigger it (I'm very much a low-to-mid hanging fruit man on Paragons at the moment, and lack the firepower to decimate any particular title, which is probably what Paragons are on the look out for).

I've noticed that the HOPPER ERROR displays (with the large red cross in the middle) rather curiously clear themselves after about 2 minutes and then the machine continues as if nothing has happened (apart from it having absconded with your bank). On older Paragons, when you got that error, it stayed on-screen. Peculiar.

Iou displays don't self-clear.

Certainly interesting, I've always walked away after this. Have you ever played on after the error has cleared and subsequently been able to collect without the error repeating?

I've not bothered checking. On the occasions where I've noticed this happening, I've been on the second machine in the pub at the time. Might be interesting to find out, however.

i had the magic cross earlier in one of my locals.
(had played my last credit on CP, cleared the board which is quite rare for me so it was a small joy.) but the keys weren't there so it was only a fiver: no drama.. then the barmaid called an engineer out which is a waste of everyone's time.

was tempted to wait for the engineer for an explanation but was meeting friends so had more important things to do. i'll ask the publican next time i'm in there.
nobody ever wins on those things.

i was in a pub tonight with big "we do not pay out losses on gaming/cigarette/jukebox machines" signs pasted about the place (another box ticked)

there's something to be said for blatant honesty.
Not sure where they stand legally with that though. I guess they 'could' argue that when they say 'losses' they mean 'If you put a pound in and don't win anything back, we're not refunding your pound!' :)

Slightly related, we've all seen signs in pubs - particularly less salubrious ones - reading "Toilets / Gaming Machines are for Customers only".

I was in one the other day which read "The Cigarette Machine is for Customers only".

Why on earth would that be? Is there a secret emptier doing the rounds?

Not an emptier as such but I believe that Wetherspoon's pubs have started to remove all their cigarette machines - they don't think they can satisfactorily control under 16s getting access to them (or is under 18 the cut-off for actually buying them?). Presumably the other main pub chains will start to follow suit.

Could be to do with all the new legislation coming in

"Sales from vending machines will also be restricted as research has shown children can buy cigarettes from them easily even though they are supposed to be in places where shops owners and pub landlords can supervise them."

Isn't that the new Spot the Difference Super Deluxe, the one that even the Marty Feldmans of quizzing can't beat?
