Although they do still let you go outside and have one... it's not been banned totally... yet.e4ans wrote:drink yourself silly and play bandits for 24 hrs a day. never seen anyone get violent after a fag or get in debt after a fag

Yes I see what you mean, but the fact is that smoking is still perfectly legal too, just not in a substantially enclosed workplace.e4ans wrote:sorry i ment they have totally hit on smokers but booze n gambling are worse in a lot of ways if you cant control it. look what b3's can do to vulnerable people
I am still in two minds about the ban, I dislike the fact that it has hit already struggling industries, and divided pubs; but I like the fact that I can go for a pint and not end up coming home stinking like an ashtray.
The main point is the last one in the last post. Drinking and gambling only affect you personally (in my point im making here, i know they affect many other people indirectly through hospitals/finance etc), breathing in someone elses cigarette smoke is totally unjustified and i'm so glad they banned it.

okay, i'm a smoker. boo hiss etc. etc.
the smell on clothes argument is a bit silly, we all wash what we wear. in terms of passive ingestion of tar and other nasties: yes, smoking is evil. in terms of nanny state: it is reprehensible. in economic terms: it has killed an industry which (i think) we all enjoy. speak to any publican and he will say it (along with the crunch, cheap booze at supermarkets etc.) has crippled his business.
on balance, it is probably a good thing that smoking is banned in public places. but people who go to pubs are already giving a letter of introduction to the reaper. we all die from something, i'd prefer to go having enjoyed my life rather than preaching shitty-little-nobody-gives-a-toss self-righteousness.

But when I was a smoker I hated the smell of smoke on my own clothes, and even more on other peoples - I only generally smoked outside except in pubs, so I generally smelt much less than those who smoked in their houses all day and in their cars with closed windows... I could always smell a smoker 10 yards away in a "clean" environment!Istenem wrote:the smell on clothes argument is a bit silly, we all wash what we wear.
