i dont know but for me seeing a new pic like the one above of a multi game cab , just signifies a move closer to the inevitable death of the pro slotter , and another nail in the coffin for the industry as a whole.

This is slightly worrying, although I'm pretty sure that most of the video based AWP's (C&R video being the possible exception seeing as they are everywhere) have not done well at all. Many pubs have got rid of their Player/Juice ones near me, obv if they were doing well they wouldn't have.trayhop123 wrote:am i just being a moaning pessimistic old cunt , ??

One pub near me has 4 AWP's and changed one for the new Elvis etc...5 game choice in the Triple777 cabinet 2 weeks ago, they got rid of it already as they were taking nothing on it.
Fact is, mug punters like reels and that's what's keeping us players going. The industry are trying to force things people don't want, and then they wonder why their businesses are going down the toilet. To those manufacturers out there reading this, if it aint broke, don't fix it. And it wasn't broke until you tried to fix it...

Excellent post.
Since S16 machines came along the industry seems to think that video is the way forward for everything, which is totally wrong. Video S16 machines worked because people already associated 5-reel multi-winline games with the random offerings seen in Vegas.
Now you've got Cat C games in video cabinets and they're shit because people don't trust them like they do physical reels. I remember when BFG did Casino Crazy Fruits with a video screen for the reels but lamps still on the top, and the game didn't perform. They got it the wrong way round - what they should have done was left the reels in and had the screen on the top, this way they could have done loads of fancy animations on the top when the feature was going, and players would still have the reels that they know and love for the bottom game. Why add the expense of a screen to a product when reels will do the job, and use boring lamps for the feature? Fucking madness.
Of course, an advantage of video is that you can have multiple games on one cab. Operators love to hear stuff like this - 6 games for the price of 1, and potentially multiplied cashbox takings. But really for the most part they're getting 6 shit games that players don't trust for the price of 1 reel-based machine that people will trust.
I'm sure when BFG ported some of their DOND games onto video they probably left the balance and control alone. But I'd still rather play the reel-based version, because the DOND feature value is on a physical reel and doesn't move once it's landed, whereas in the back of your mind on the video version you know that they could cheat on that reel if they wanted to. They're probably not, but how can you be totally sure? When you open the box and get 1p on an actual reel, it's a fair cop - you should have dealt. On video they could be doing what the fuck they like, and you can't do anything about it. It's a bit like playing roulette on an FOBT; you feel cheated when you lose. I'd rather go to a casino, spin my money away on a physical wheel and see it with my own eyes. You can't argue with that.
In over 20 years there are only a handful of video-based AWP's that have been successful, such as Ace Sidewinder, Maygay Screenplay, Project Joker Poker and some of the BWB stuff like Red Hot Poker, Monte carlo or Bust and so on. But for the most part there was a reason for the screen to be there - Draw Poker, Duck Shoot feature, Sidewinding, Casino-themed features, flame animations on the backs of the cards and so on. What's the fucking point of having a DOND with a screen instead of lamps and a vac, when all the screen does is flash images on and off like lamps do, and nothing extra?
I remember 10 years ago at the ATEi, Maygay had a load of video-based AWP's which looked nice but did nothing that reels and lamps couldn't. They were unremarkable at best, and I didn't see any of them ever again after the show. If they went out on test they must have failed dismally.
You'd think people would have learned, but obviously not. Save money on lamps and artwork, but at a much higher price...
