How long before FFS makes it in?

There's some beauties in there. I can't believe it took them so long to introduce much-needed abbreviations for PAVLOVA and SAVELOY ...

ZA is also allowed, as an abbreviation for pizza. Can't say I've ever heard that, in all my years of pizza-munching.Cardinal Sin wrote:There's some beauties in there. I can't believe it took them so long to introduce much-needed abbreviations for PAVLOVA and SAVELOY ...
If you've ever wanted to be a top Scrabbler, memorise that list. And then the 4s. And the 5s, 6s, 7s and 8s. And you're there.

i was (within the age group) quite good at scrabble when i was eight. in the tournament semi, some remedial kid played CIVE thinking he'd played SIEVE, i challenged and it was allowed: probably an 'african shrub' or 'some other improbable way of killing C and V'. i wept like a gay baby all the way home; at the time i cared about it.
meh. (MEH soon).
we all have moments of weak blindness. but i do still care about spelling; if a word cannot be defined and used in a proper context, it is useless. by definition.
i've said it before and no doubt i'll say it again: scrabble is not a word game, it is all about numbers. WS is getting that way with horrible things like VAV, OCH, VLY etc. and at the other end, extensions of mass nouns/uncountables: ~NESSES, ~ITIES (no verb: boo!)
if you can't use a word in script or conversation it is not a word. but something like INCONSEQUENTIALITIES would be allowed in most word games because it is considered to be good. art vs science again.
but WU is pure and beautiful.

I think that Scrabble would be better if the words were replaced by random strings of symbols.Istenem wrote:i've said it before and no doubt i'll say it again: scrabble is not a word game, it is all about numbers.
The best thing that you could do Scrabble-wise would be to spend a furious year memorising the rest of the words, win a big tournament and give everyone the bird. Would exorcise the demons in a satisfactory fashion.
I only got into word games because I found the people on Countdown irritating and wanted to crush them out of spite. Negative emotions can make great motivators.
You also will probably end up going native.

Of course, no sooner do I say that than a god-awful ad springs up on the telly for recording freeview with Alan Carr where he talks about a saveloy sausage then says "Imagine getting stood up by a sav".Cardinal Sin wrote:I can't believe it took them so long to introduce much-needed abbreviations for PAVLOVA and SAVELOY ...
