Good work Roger. I agree there's quite a few Aussie questions on there, but there's also an awful lot of Americana - the bank reminds me rather of Big Match, which also had a lot of Americana. Pretty annoying to be honest.rogerthymes wrote: Probably mentioned before, but I've done all-star quiz a few times. If you get it first time when its in a good mood you can go all the way. Otherwise, if you had an aussie quizzer you might be fine!!
unobtainable jackpots

[quote="dmac"]Have to say my Goldenballs prizes have been in the £7 to £10 range more often than not, although I tend to only play it if 1v100 has played well. I'm sure I took 12 quid off it on my first ever shot. Monopoly's a strange one. I find it harder to get to the end game than GB and 1v100, yet the prize is nearly always worse. As for Pub Quiz (which forced the JP on me once)]
I managed to improve my Goldenballs PB up to £10 this lunchtime - in the City, so a bit of a surprise. I had £2 going into the last three balls, with a £6, a £8 and a prize-down left - oddly it let me discard the prize-down and select the £8 for £10 total!

Would it be true to say that the 'pot' for the stations is linked to the 'value' available in, or indeed the chance to get to, the end game? I've had £8 off of the stations before, but the board has been ridiculously difficult to get anywhere near the end-game on - that go and the two beforehand?
I might have just been having a particularly poor day, of course!

"And do you ever contradict yourself, Minister?" "Well, yes and no..."
As the Professor of Goldenballsology, I could have explained that this was guaranteed to happen once you got to those last three balls - as it always pays out an amount in whole pounds it couldn't give you a Killer after the £2 as that would have taken you to 20p and given that there wasn't an 80p ball left (of course no such ball exists) you were bound to get one of the other amounts.grecian wrote:I managed to improve my Goldenballs PB up to £10 this lunchtime - in the City, so a bit of a surprise. Mind you, this doesn't stop the game being nearly as annoying as the actual TV show, which is utterly dreadful!
NS, I'm amazed it's taken you so long to work this out - I realised it as soon as I made the post and assumed you'd be on the case within minutes! Or have you been on holiday!?Nil Satis wrote:As the Professor of Goldenballsology, I could have explained that this was guaranteed to happen once you got to those last three balls - as it always pays out an amount in whole pounds it couldn't give you a Killer after the £2 as that would have taken you to 20p and given that there wasn't an 80p ball left (of course no such ball exists) you were bound to get one of the other amounts.grecian wrote:I managed to improve my Goldenballs PB up to £10 this lunchtime - in the City, so a bit of a surprise. I thought I'd let you stew in the juices of revelation for a few days...
Alternatively, I have been working really hard, both (i) at my 'real' job, which is fine, and (ii) on the machines, which is anything but fine - I am finding it more and more depressing and would happily give up playing them tomorrow if I could find a replacement for the extra money. I know I can come across as a caricature of a Grumpy Old Man at times but, honestly, when you've seen what games can be, not just in financial terms, but also in terms of offering a stimulating challenge and a real sense of achievement on making the top prize, the comparison with the (pardon my French) utter bollocks that makes up 99% of what is out there now is extremely depressing.
The key problem now, as I think I've mentioned before, is how little even the decent games seem to get played. It is taking far too long for games to refill - the week or two that this used to be in any sort of busy pub is now two or three months. The multigame cabinet is obviously a major factor in this, as is the generally parlous state of the pub trade and the cowardly nature of the games companies (Games Warehouse in particular), meaning that it's obvious to anyone how poor a lot of the product is. It feels more and more like Jiggy Bank will actually be the last decent game, rather than the herald to a hoped-for new era of (as I called it at the time) "man's games". This is certainly the case as far as quiz games go - I can see them being replaced more and more by card games, Spot The Difference-type rubbish and that bloody 'Punch Your Weight' boxing game that is appearing all over the place.
Oh, I nearly forgot - Merry Christmas one and all!
