many classrooms in italy have a wallchart with several pictures, one of them is invariably a paddy/jock boozing

Total guess, but are there very few words in Italian (similar to German) beginning with the letter W... whisky being the most obvious one which is how children learn the letter?

Sin wins. there is no W in italian (whisky also has K and Y which are never used and H which is only in the verb to have (ho, hai ha, abbiamo, avete hanno)).
