JPM - Note Exchange (Help!! - Plz)
JPM - Note Exchange (Help!! - Plz)
Had one of these for about 10-13 years. My dad bought it cheap from a clearance down the seafront.
For the last 10 years it has been in storage at my dads shop and hasn't been used. 2 days ago, he was having a clearout, and because i now have a house he asked if i wanted it.
he brought it round, we connected it up - it worked fine. all the lights still worked, the tubes worked. It accepts all the cons except 50p's - they must have changed in the time that we have had the machine. I was surprised the 10p pieces worked.
Played on it a lot last night, yesterday and the night before.
this morning - i have just gone to turn it on - and nothing. It is completely dead. No sound from the machine at all.
HELP! does anybody know what it may be? I have tried the lead, and changed this a couple of times in case a fuse had gone in that.
I have checked where it says (Fuse unscrew) and inside there is a fuse that seems fine.
any other suggestions why i may come to it today and it isn't working? Yet last night it was fine?

Cheers for feedback.
Surely if it was a back up battery, wouldnt this have caused it not to work when i first got it the other night?
I played on the machine for a good hour the day before yesterday, and then yesterday had it on most of the day, turning it off a few times, and then had it on again yesterday evening for a couple of hours, getting it filled with cash - before then turning it off before going out last night.
Ive been back out to have a look. There is no noise, humming or anything coming from the machine when the power is connected. Surely if the board had gone there would still be some humming coming from the power box wouldnt there?
Where abouts can the back up battery be found. As i look inside the machine there are the coin tubes to the left, all the leads from the lights that lead down into the back of a black box. then at the bottom left there is a silver box which seems to be the power unit. Its on this box there is an unscrewable fuse and also a power button. Ive checked that fuse, and also switched the power button off and bk on. No joy :-(
Im well gutted. To think my dad has had this years, then i have it for 3 days and it goes kupput.
Are there any more fuses that could have possibly gone? and are these easy to change?
Is it fairly easy to get somebody out to have a look at fruit machines? Does anyone know the cost a call out would usually be?
One gutted lad.

no power
hi mate this silver box you are talking about? sounds to me as tho it is the lights power unit---the power supply is directly where your power lead is plugged into---there is a fuse on this check this first mate---let me know

the name of the fruit machine is "note exchange" by jpm. I will take a photo of the back tomorrow and try get this up on the net.
Thanks for advice, i will have another look tomorrow.
Ive checked one fuse on the box - that is fine - i think it was a 20amp fuse -in a screw part of the silver box (Which i believe is the power supply box).
There is another pannel on it that says fuses underneath, so im guessing there could be a fuse inside this which has gone?
I will double check it all again tomorrow, and post some photos.
Thanks everyone.

Just re-read what you said Brian -
the lead (computer/kettle style lead) plus into a socket in the middle of the back of the machine. When opened up, this just has a few wires on the other side which take this socket into a black cable - i cant see any fuse on that. I will have a look again tomorrow, cheers.

Hey guys,
well, ive been back out and had a look this morning:
Ive put the picture of the back of the machine on there. The black bit in the middle in where the power lead goes into. I've had a look at this, and it is from here that there is a black lead that goes into the box behind the tubes on the left. Im guessing that this is the power supply box. It is on this box that there is a power switch, a screw in fuse, and a pannel to remove with fuses underneath.
I removed this pannel, and there were fuses for reel, sync, coin and several other. Ive checked the majority of these - and they all were fine. It was just one at the furthest end i couldnt access.
I finally figured the board must be in the plastic box - and from looking at it - it is a MPS2 board. I took this apart, and the battery on the board was covered with a small white plastic cap - the battery has "burst" but there is no sign of any leakage, apart from the clip holding the battery in place is kind of welded to the battery. Started to try to remove this - but i can not get the battery off without the risk of snapping the prongs that fix the bottom of the battery to the circuit board.
It does look like the battery has been like this for some time?
Would there be absolutely no power going to anything, if this battery wasn't functioning? Or should i get some power somewhere?
hopefully with this extra bit of info, somebody may be able to help me further.
thankyou.

That battery needs urgent replacement. To remove it, you need to unsolder it from the board (three legs). aaamusements can sort you out with a new battery.
The board will work fine without it but will "forget" it's percentage settings when turned off.
Do any of the LEDs on the MPS2 come on? If so, which ones?
Have you checked the fuse in the plug or tried another mains lead?
If it's blowing mains fuses then there are 4 mains capacitors in the PSU that need replacing (C1 - C4). I'd replace those caps anyway even if there was no fault 'cause they'll fail eventually, usually explosively!

Hey,
no humming, nothing. I will try doing what you said with the rubber cover on the socket. Ill pop out there shortly and test that.
Seems strange doesn't it to just stop completely working, or having any sign of life.
I've even tested the plug socket (because it is in my garage) just to double check, cos i know they are tempremental, but ive had an extension lead plugged in, to make sure the red light shows on that. and i used my stereo at same time.
If there was a humming, or some LEDs were on, or something... i would be happy to know that its easier to troubleshoot.... but when its nothing... first thing to mind is fuse gone... but, they seem fine... or lead.. and they are fine...
okiie doke, next mission to check the rubber cover.... fingers crossed. lol
