a concise and eclectic list indeed

particularly liked harpsicord hero 6 ,much more satisfying to play than it's predesessors ,they really sorted out the chord chaos stages aswell.

i got stuck on split spliff zac, i could'nt find the last vera lynn on stage 6 to repair the bazooka bifta.

had trouble on drownerz too, the under currents on the last stage are too harsh..................any cheats? or a walk/swim through?

i am playing Sim sonambulist at the mo ,it'll keep me busy while i wait for for the heterosexual version of "lord of the rings" xmas no 1 ,i reckon"lord of the lady gardens"

It was a concise list. I meticulously edited it down from over 16,523 games which were all highly enjoyable and were responsible for wasting many hours of my youth, at least twenty hours average per game I'd estimate with 100% accuracy.

Gypsy peacocks was hardcore arcade gaming at its best. You had to guide various artefacts such as four leaf clovers, lucky rabbit's foot, the ace of spades, the three of clubs etc through a hedge maze, avoiding peacocks to the main entrance to the Lord's manor. On later levels you flipped between artefacts or controlled a rogue peacock. Gypsy king bonii would do things such as burn down dead ends or freeze the peacocks.
There were apparently 99 levels, but level 21 was enough for most people with the rabbit's foot usually getting stuck in the mystery holes all over the bloody place. The game was supported on the Tartri 480SLX and the Bob-Opus, whilst a hacked version was released for the Migatron Moceodore in the very early '90s.

I never rated the harpsichord series much, finding them rather 'intellectual', I preferred Pieano and Mash, a rag time cockney fest set in wartime London whereby you had to munch on rationed food in beat to Joplinesque 8bit melody without getting shot at by rogue Nazi pies.

My parents never allowed my to play any of the split spliff Zac series, deeming them too lewd and too sexually entertaining for my innocent eyes. That stipulation was never technically withdrawn, so even to this day, I would feel guilty even thinking about playing them. It was only on the list because of my yearning to play the game. It was a game that truly rivalled the rather crass Awechasm II on the Camto 10. So they say.

Drownerz was all about picking up the 'enhancements' and it got a bit too nerdy towards the end. I saved what I thought would be a winning 'rig' onto the casette tape and pressed play on the command of the prism XL home computer. Unfortunately it didn't save properly and there was no way I was beating a 26knot undercurrent with stage 2 flippers.

Sim somnambulist was a novelty, but for some people I belive they stayed up half the night just reading the first few pages of the instruction manual and then stayed up half the night trying to figure out the game which was basically the cheat as then you could walk where you wanted and get infinite points.
One German guy, FranzhauskreissmichaelschwiezenhasuenMcHerrmacher Smith managed to stay asleep for 86 days solid with only 13 minutes wakening allowed due to 'mental soporific deficiencies'. During this time he coded sim somnabulist 2 in his sleep whilst walking from Australia to the North Pole and back. Sim somnambulist 2 (SS2) was a game where the aim was to code sim somnambulist 2 in your sleep, preferably whilst walking somewhere.

Lord of the Lady Gardens will be released on Blueblue this next coming previous Wurthsday the 26nd of Starch. It can be viewed on a SpecStation 3 (SS3) or a Camto Phwoar 25.

Or you can have already next year downloaded it last yesterday to your i-i-i why? pie spy to all those with a tooth port in your USB sided testacle phone. Ok?

Sim Actuary rocked!
I remember the time I stayed up for 3 days just dealing with the financial impact of risk and uncertainty without even eating or sleeping or anything!

JG, I don't think I've ever really 'Laughed Out Loud' reading a thread as I do when you've contributed to it - just brilliant! ;)

there werent extra islands on the home computer versions...

if you collected certain things it gave you certain bonus items...

get the diamonds in red orange yellow green blue indigo violet and it gave the secret room on the bad guy...

different level of bonus for this: kill the bad guy, and get in the secret room within 2 seconds and you got an extra bonus... there was a pickup in each room,
shoe, red pot, yellow pot, wings fairy, book of continue(for use after island 5) money, loads of other bits and bobs as you went on..

you sometimes got magic wands, these came out of the stage top-boxes and gave you a hidden hint,

to get a diamond to turn a diffferent colour, break a rainbow over and make the bad guy land in one of 7 invisable sections along the screen..

there were a load of other hidden prizes... they were first published in an early issue of "amiga power" magazine...

i worked some of this out myself after ages and ages of playing,
but the magazine said some of the bonus's only came up every so many games not continues or lives but games... one hidden, a secret cape that made you invisable, and one that gave you FOUR permanant rainbows came up every 150 games? i used to leave my amiga on all the time...

ive had this game since on the pc and playstation... and they are all shit versions

the best is the arcade for playing the true story.. but its fucking difficult

the amiga was the best conversion,

all of the versions are on ebay for a good price!!

there used to be a "club" on the internet, and they had the locations of about 8-10 working units across the country... yes i was sad enough to go to one in passing and have a quick play... lol

Some old titles mentioned in this thread, i like loads of games (particularly the survivor horror titles nowadays) but don't tend to play many new games for long.

3 classic games that kept me addicted for ages were Chaos, Footballer of the Year and The Wild Bunch on Spectrum 48k. Moving on to Street Fighter 2 Turbo on the SNES/Arcade (nothing funnier than perfecting a Ken "Master" with Zangief), and F-Zero (SNES) was good for rivalry with a mate (kept knocking 10ths of a second of each others best lap times for bragging rights, mainly on the 1st track), Rock and Roll Racing (SNES) is one of the best 2 player experiences ever and must be played by all (race to get the first upgraded car and then speed ahead of opponent dropping mines and spin round halif way up track and unleash those missiles, wahahaha).

Streets of Rage 2 and Gunstar Heroes are definately worth a mention on the Megadrive/Genesis, not the biggest fan of this console generally although there are a few good titles.

I like all the Metroid-vania style games in general (Super Castlevania (SNES), Castlevania Symphony of the Night (Playstation), Rondo of Blood (PC Engine prequel to Symhony of the Night), Harmony of Dissonance and Aria of Sorrow (GBA), Super Metroid (SNES), Metroid Fusion, Metroid Zero Mission (GBA) e.t.c). Wish they'd make more of them on the new systems (just becasue they are powerful doesn't mean they HAVE to make all games 3d).

Nowadays it's mostly ps2 survival horror titles and the odd rpg (best rpgs for me are from the snes era such as the Final Fantasy games, too many classic games on that console to choose from such as Shadowrun).

I agree with that - would love to see some platformers / flick-screeners back. I suppose they just don't think they're viable anymore. :(

Personally I think you get much more 'feel' in a 2d game. (Most of the time!)

Good call. That was a class game. You can play it on an online emulator these days, although the only problem is that when it comes to the gunfight, I've no idea how to fire the gun - so you end up getting shot :(

Think it was the space bar to fire gun on The Wild Bunch but may be wrong (very long time since i played it, one of the best budget titles i ever played on the spectrum). Only ever completed it once and shot the man i needed to arrest to prove innocence on many occasions.

There is a remake out for it on mobile phones iirc (remember seeing mention of it in a retro remake forum or somewhere similar), noticed it while looking for retro remakes of games like Stop the Express, e.t.c.

Hmmm. Interesting.... I might download it.

Although I might very well not. Being a big fan of Worms, my mate once spent a 5er downloading the mobile version. It was possibly the worst game I'd ever played - you only had 2 weapons and your worms couldn't even move

Worms is great! Team17 made some stunning games. Agree though, that the moby version is just shocking. :(

PSP versions (I & II) are very good though.

there have been some weird programmer cheats/pokes put in over the years, such as droping the ik+ trousers, for example ,,,, and one i remember most, was on the cbm64 version of kung fu master, it only worked on the levels where you walked from right to left but if you held down 'g' on the keyboard whilst walking he would pull out and shoot a gun instead of punching /kicking ,,,,,,,,, funny thing was that soon after doing this the game would always crash,,, weird ,,,,,,,,,,
Little discipline = BIG issue

I seem to remember some sort of 'protection' routine on 'Spellbound' (great puzzle / adventure game) whereby if on loading, the checksum didn't add up, it presented a screen saying something like:

"Hello hacker! Why not put your talents to good use and join our team, call xxx-xxxxx-xxxx!"

Or something like that. :)
