a know this may sound stupid but how do you know when to force a machine and how much does it usually take.im considering doing it to jackpots that rock n roll n jekyll n hyde but not sure if it is a good idea as these machines have been sh*te to me

I wouldn't really advise forcing either of these two as they are both cack. Jekyll won't streak, and JPTRAR can cost the earth at times! Find some better machines!
