Having a bit of trouble with the LCD Meter or around that area.
My MPU5 machine is throwing up LCD METER COMMS FAIL alarm message. If you unplug the LCD meter the machine works as normal until you put money in. With the meter plugged in you get nothing but the alarm!
Does anyone know for sure the rating of the resistor found on the red wire (from the MPU5 to the Sec unit). I checked this whole group of wires for continuity. All good but nothing from the red one! So I went to Maplins and bought another and soldered it on. The one I bought was a 1000 Ohm +/- 5%. But with the resistor I removed it wasn't clear whcih side to read the coloured bars from as it seemed symmetrical. So reading it the other way it could be 120 Ohms +/- 5%.
With my new resistor (1000 ohm) in the problem remains.
Funny problem really as the Sec does come on just seems to not comunicate with the MPU5! Annoying problem though as it render sthe machine useless!

meter alarm
hi, just replace the meter its a lot less hassle
There may be nothing wrong with the meter though. That seems happy enough it does light up and display digits. There was no power going through the resistor attached to the wire that goes to the meter from the MPU. The resistor is before you get to the meter at all.
But then again the meter could be knackered too but I shall have to repair that wire first anyway as a new meter won't work either.

ok replace the reistor then see how you get on
the machine will work ok until you insert a coin and the coin mech tells the mpu that it received this info which inturn pulse,s the meter
i assume that this alarm will only go off with door,s closed as the machine will be in demo mode
also i have not had faults from the mpu its always the meter , however that's not to say it can be the mpu but as a last resort
regards

:)
Strange fault... The chances of that resistor being open circuit are very slim, what machine is it (obviously a crest) the easiest thing to do here and anyone who is an engineer/tech service wanabe should know is to check when you power up how many red flashes and green flashes the mpu5 strobes when your lock up fault initialises, after you count the red and green combonation cross check it with the field service manual, that will pin point what is happening and why. If you don't have a field manual send me the error strobes and ill send you the answer.
