Engineers

Vermin. Hate them with a passion, always lie, spread shit and get you barred for simply playing machines with a method/skill - things they only wish they could do themselves...

Favourite accusations include:

He knows what he's doing, trust me I know
He's doing something to it
He's got the key(s)
He's frauding it
He's using a code
He works for the company
I've seen him in another pub and I thought he was barred out of here
We've been watching him
He's only coming in to do the machine
There's a gang of them, they do the local circuit, I've seen his mates too

Advice they give when we're owed:

Tell him we've checked and nothing came up on the logs
Tell him we've been in with the police and the police want to talk to him
The machines were nationally frauded, we're not paying out on them
Say there was nothing in the machine, the engineer checked and it was actually short so nothing can be paid out
Tell him we know what he did and he's barred - don't pay him out
Tell him we've got what he did on camera and the police are after him
Just bar him

An engineer from Essex Leisure apparently told a landlord that I'd used a device to empty the machine and that I only needed to put a £1 in to empty it.

Theres a twat who works for Gamestec, bald head and a scar on his head, i've seen him sticking the boot in before, and he video'd me playing a machine once (why?) the times i've walked in a pub and seen him with the front up, always clear off and come back another time, i don't know what sort of wages they get but he seems very bitter.

they make out they're so honest but one of their biggest wage boosts is those coins that jam up the coin mechs - of course "the were no coins jammed in the machine, it was just rejecting".... pathetic little thieves and yes VERY bitter... because they do the same as us for about 5% of the pay lol.

if it was the other way around, what would you do?

they probably hate their jobs, just like most people do...

they could make hundreds from skimming coins, putting those odd 20p's in the hopper... underfloating , taking fake coins with them and telling pubs they must have been accepted through the mech...

loads of scams...

and they count the money without anypone looking over their shoulder meaning the oportunity is always there..

we had a machine sited once where the payout tubes werent alligned properly, coins came out of the hopper and went somewhere in the machine, like, 1 or 2 in every ten paid out went missing..

engineer came and said he couldnt understand how it had happened " theres no way of that tube to be like that by mistake", they had gone through a loose tube and out into the very bottom of the machine, he gave us the £15 or so that was there, which we game to the punters who had complained....

ten minutes after opening on the next refill day the same problem again..

the person who was refilling them was doing it deliberately.. the meters would have been spot on, but the "customer" shortpaid 1/10
over a week that could be £150

Most of us know at least one engineer that edges on our side, but having one completely on your side is getting rarer.

One let me empty a Cops 'n Robbers, then said he had two more that he had to chip that day. Obviously after a deal, so I spoke to him away from the pub and offered him payment. The player I was with came out with "Don't give him anything! That's his fuckin' job to tell us!"

We didn't get the other two . . .

All BFM's have a tendancy to let the odd nugget slip out of the hopper and onto the bottom wood!!!

I had the bank witnessed by a landlord I know well, so no heat the other day, £100 in bank. I heard it do the above a few times, was £3 short when he was changing it up for me :(

Right guys I used to work for one of the biggest firms as an engineer and the pay was alright and the job ok, none of us cared about pros! in fact from what I can see the company didnt. There was none of the above that you mention if I went to a machine and there was evidence it payed short then the pub got the money simple as!

I suspect its the pubs that cause the trouble! In the whole time I was there I did one "rechip" for a certain machine. These firms arnt as clued up as you think, the maunfactures might be but as long as the distributers get the rent they dont care!

And believe me from what I saw whilst I was there the engineers were making plenty on the side!!

Mainly from machines with "extra " money in but no claim from pub or IOUs which were not claimed. Money down pool table pockets, some of the more dodgy ones would just help themselves to money in club machines when the clubs emptied them themselves rtaher than the firm. From what I saw the meters were rarely checked by anyone. whole industry is bent so they arnt bothered about a pros at the end of the day they get there rent come rain or shine!!

The reno casino in peterborough services always pay out 10p's . one time i got a £25 top and i got 9 x 10p's instead of £1.

i phoned up and complained and told them what i thought andfilled out a claim form. a week later i recived a cheque for £8.10.

blantant example of dodgy engineers. i even suggested when i phoned up to do an audit after refill day to see how many 10 p's you will find in the hopper -
