I'm close to 2 Silvers branches and an independent. They frequently offer 3-4-3 on cat C or 5-4-5 on cat B3, but occasionally, they let you spin this Wheel of Fortune-type device, massive thing it is, and it'll land on £1, £2, £3 or £5 for free play.

Had about about £5K out of a flat battery GGG, daily from a 5/5 offer. Easy to check, there must be scores around the country in this state.

I'm guessing they meant a CMOS battery that you get on computers. If it goes flat, the computer forgets certain settings including the time. I don't know the significance of this on gambling machines though.

Older fruit machines always paid out when first installed. Savvy arcade owners would play a few hundred through first. A machine with a flat battery would start off every day as brand new - and on an older machine this would make it ready to pay. I've had a couple of token machines years back which would pay out 6 or 7 JP's 1st thing every day.
Battery should recharge off the mains... but if the battery back up is faulty this wont work. Modern machines are now installed ahead of % not behind, so a brand new machine is now tight as.

I got £8 for £8 in Quicksilvers that I shovelled into a Smash the Cash for open game, ARB2ish. Another £5 later and it topped out, mustn't grumble... ;)
