what you have is a jpm "impact" technology machine

refil key won't be a problem, its a standard key, can be had off ebay for a few quid. ( key number is 8700)
looks like this...

for the sound i would check the simple stuff first.

make sure the speaker is connected (people have a habit of disconnecting them , as the alarm sounds are very annoying)
go into test and make sure the volume is turned up, it can also be done through refil mode, but you have no key yet.
check the speaker works

general overview of the hardware:

the square box is the power supply unit, does exactly that, as the machine is setting up, we can assume its ok.. :)

the mpu (computer) consists of 4 units, one large pcb with 3 smaller pcbs slotted in. (if you remove any of these, take note of which slot they come out of, that way you can put them back in correct slot.
it is situated under the large metal protective cover.

1: the large board is the main I/O board, most hardware in the machine is connected to it.. lamps, mech, hopper, buttons, reels etc etc
you should notice a large red button on it,the button is located under the round hole on the protective cover, this allows you to access the button without removing the cover. :)
this button puts the machine on test when the back door switch is in the open position

three boards slotted into the main board are:

a: program board; this contains the eeproms that hold the machine program
b: sound board; this has the hardware for the machine sounds, i think it may hold a sound prom and maybe the speakers wires connect here, but i'm not entirely sure (haven't seen one for a while and i forget alot :) )
3: processor board; this board has the main processor on it and the battery which holds the machines memory.
best to have a look at the battery, there are famous for leaking and the acid can damage the board, this is very bad as the technology is obsolete, the parts are as rare as rocking horse shit.
i have heard of folk mounting the battery on its own board and connecting by wires, might be worth looking at...

hope that gives you an idea of what you have..

PS, if you are removing the board cover, make sure the machine is unplugged, its easy to touch against one of the boards and cause damage....

Thanks

Thanks for the info.

Just really want to get the sound sorted so will look at checking that out.

The battery as mentioned is in a hell of a state so I will be replacing it with a new one. I will put on a separate board as suggested to avoid further damage.

No real major issues so hopefully I can remedy them all quite quickly.

I will be back if I need any more updates and will keep here updated as to progress.

Help!!!!

OK, I have had a play and I am really getting nowhere.
I think a lot lyes in the test mode which I cannot get into.
I have located the push button on the main board and it shows on the case how to get into test mode and demo mode. On pressing as instructed the small display on the machine just keeps going through play mode.
There is a Serial Port above the push button and status light. Is there anything I should plug in here to get into test mode. The status LED just flashes.

Your help is appreciated. Sorry for the questions but I am new to Fruit machines!!

Look forward to hearing back.

Dave

the seriel port is only used to connect to datacapture devices, nothing usefull for you there.

switch machine off/on then press and hold the test button in for 3 seconds, should go into test.. :)

Tried this but the Test button has no effect at all.
Could it be that the battery on the main board has gone? If definatly looks shocking but the board around it looks to be ok.
If the battery was dead would it effect the test facility?
I have put money through the system and had payouts so that side is ok?

nope, the battery would have no effect at all on the test facililty..

are the door switches open?
the test button is not active until the back door switch is open...

look for the door switches and see if they are disconnected/ taped up

switches look like this:

Image

should be one on the back door, front door and cashbox door

its the one on the back door that your interested in.;0

Been and had another look.
There is one of those switches on the front door and the cash door. These are both wired and working. I left both doors open and no effect of the button.
There is no back door and I cant find any other switches.
I have tried all combinations of doors open and closed and nothing.

The reset key that I spoke about earlier is totally missing. There is just a hole where it should be. Will this effect it.

I think the key to my problems are in test mode.....I just need to get into it!

Anything else you can suggest apart from a box of matches
