Barcrest Numeric Display Brightness

Hi all. Don't know if this is a fault or not. My Barcrest Horn Of Plenty (which is bags of fun, and a good money box) is working fine, but the display is not that bright. Any ideas?
Since we moved it to near the window it's notably hard to see the display without shielding it from the light. The wife reckons it's been getting dimmer since we got it, although I only noticed it recently.
I did contact a member here regarding some techy literature but I was unsure whether it would give me deep enough info.
