Reel error 21

Hi
I have a cops and robbers machine, from around 1994. When switching it on it displays a reel 21 error. I have checked all of the cabling which looks fine and have also checked all the reels spin freely, which they do. When the machine powers up all of the reels spin fine.

I am led to believe that reel error 21 refers to reel 1? I have checked reel 1 and have found that the reel decal? is cracked and has a chunk missing, could this be causing the issue? I have tried covering the split with tape but made no difference.

Thanks in advance.

swap reel 1 with reel 2 see if the fault moves to reel 2

I took all the reels out and cleaned them up and cleaned the sensors too. I checked all the cabling which looked OK and put the reels back in in the same order. I am now getting a Reel Error 25!?

Does anyone have any ideas?

If it's a club machine, reel 5 could be the dice reel?

do as previous poster said, mark the reels and swap them to see if it changes. sound like a wiring fault or bad connection somewhere as it changed when you cleaned it.

I'm Close to giving up with this. Took all 5 reels out, cleaned them all and oiled the motors, swapped them around but when I did that the reels didn't even spin up on boot. I put them back in the order they were in and they now spin up again but I still get an error, which varies between 21,23 and 25.

I have some other reels which I know are working (from a friends working machine) and I tried putting these in the machine and still got the random errors. To me this points to the wiring loom or mainboard?

I took the loom out and checked every connection/crimp which all looked fine. Is there anything to check on the mainboard?

Thanks for your time

Kevin

if you can remove it ok, have a look underneath and make sure theres no bubbling on the green circuit board, look for any caps that are bulging (if you find any they need replacing).

does this machine have a reel driver board or is it all copntained in the mainboard, sorry but not familiar with that one fully.

The reel wiring loom goes back to the mainboard so I guess it doesnthave a reel driver board?
