Many coins rejected- what to do?

My maygay takes four kinds of coins. 1-5-10-20. 1-10 are fine. 5 rejects every now and then, and seems to dump most 5s into the floor of the machine rather than to its hopper.
20 is the biggest problem. 90% of them are rejected.I suppose if you stand there quite a while putting em back in they will go in, but it is a hassle.
Its a maygay you won't find anywhere in the UK so, its nice to have a rare one, its from 1997 and I got it today.

have you tried cleaning the inside of the mech? if theres a lot of dirt in the mech it cant read the coins properly, don't use any cleaners tho, just a damp cloth/ earbud, open the reject slide carefully and give it a clean. :?

Ok as soon as I figure out how to open this thing, Ill give her a clean. There's a bunch of components connected so I'll need to read in the tech manual.

If you rush the reject button on the front of the machine you will see part of the mech open up, thats where you need to clean behind, open it carefully (its spring loaded) and clean inside where the coins travel, its more than likely a build up of dirt/sweat inside.

if you push the reject slowly you will have more chance seeing the bit that opens

Gave er a good clean, wasn't too dirty to begin with. Doesn't seem to have helped.

I tried heating some coins, that didnt help. Letting the machine stay on for a while doesnt seem to help either.

It kind of streaks- sometimes it will take 7 coins consecutively, but most of the time it will reject a small handful of coins.
There's not much dirt left in there now, so maybe its just something that happens. The coin mech has 1997 marked on it, so maybe its just due for a replace.

Yea Ill require a norwegian one then, so I might just forget about it since its a machine that only sits in my gameroom anyway.

The Mech will almost certainly be of UK spec and readily available, after all, it's already accepting UK coinage isn't it ?

teaching new coins would be awesome, would be fun to learn and play with, maybe do tokens and such.
anyway it appears the prob sorted after I gave it a clean anyway. Prolly just had to run a few coins thru it after the cleaning, it is now accepting most coins. I've been wanting to program the note acceptor and coin acceptor to take different stuff but how the * do I do it? I know that the bill acceptor can be programmed because it has a teach-button on it.
