switching from 240 to 115 damage?
so.... while pissing about with my machine and trying to find out what lights meant what on the boards, i turned the machine off, flicked the red switch at the back to 115 instead of 240 and got a real loud bleeping sound, i then turned the machine off again and switched it back. it now wont turn on at all,
have i fried something.
i replaced the fuse beside the red switch at the power supply but it didnt help at all.

how many fuses are there?matty.n wrote:try changing all fuses, not just the one
if that dont work one can assume that all the components have had 240volts thrown through em
i now have power to the powerbox which has two lights lit up but none to the top of the machine which previously had about six lit, so ill change all fuses and hope for the best.
then i have to try and fix the original no power prob lol

for simplicity, assume that its 240/120 volt switch, when set to 240, the voltage is stepped down 20 times to get 12 volts, but only 10 times when set to 120.
if you put 240v in whilst set to 120v you'll get an output of 24v on your 12v line, the same kind of increase will happen on all the other outputs, so lamp lines could fail due to bulbs being blown, or diodes failing,
also the processor will most likely use 5v, so again too high a voltage could destroy it
you may have to replace the mpu, and then see what lamps are still working, and go from there
sorry to be negative, but prob easier in long run to replace the hardware

i picked this machine up today and it had this prob, after i blew and replaced the fuses i have exactly the same lights as before the fuse incident so i dont think this has affected anything.Doctor Jones wrote:for simplicity, assume that its 240/120 volt switch, when set to 240, the voltage is stepped down 20 times to get 12 volts, but only 10 times when set to 120.

so what would your advice be to someone who didnt blow their fuses but had the non flashing led problem.
thanks for all the help

some answers do beggar belief, but you all got to start some whererustyspurs wrote:sorry mate im a total newbie, how can i tell?Doctor Jones wrote:what technology is it? (mpu5, scorpion4, impact etc)
Who makes the machine? MayGAY, Barcunt, JPimoM, ArseholeCompanyE etc
and what tech - look on the pcb it should say - if you can be bothered to take the covers of it.
What is the machine called can also be of great help as we are not all mind readers
BTW my car won't start can you tell me what's wrong with it ?
it's got 4 wheels and it's red so I'm sure you can all help, TA!

i had the details on another thread, forgot to add them here
i dont know where the pcb is you knob jockey,
ive tried finding a manual for my machine so i can understand the inner working and what goes where but havent found anything in the 24 hrs ive had the machine.
why join these forums and answer questions if you expect everyone to know a certain amount before we post, i thought the idea was to maybe pick the brains of people who know more about a subject.
so fuck u dickhead.
by the way ur car wont start because it can tell a knobs behind the wheel and has a special anti knob reset button under the handbrake which you must push to get going.
let me know how you get on!!
