The fault will most probably be the game eprom is loose or not in its base socket

Cheers machine doc... I will give it a go as soon as it arrives, and see if anything else is un-seated / needing a clean..

I will be made up to get this working, the sounds of Mr B's Arcade, at Leysdown, now filling my living room! :P

Ohhh the good old 'F' fault, the arcade i have just started working for have 12 machine in there workshop all doing this, nice trick to sort it, and it will have NOTHING TO DO WITH YOUR PROMS, i recommend you do not touch these as old bar-x proms were known for static malfunctions. really simple to sort, let me know if you still have this problem m8

what would you suggest as the fault, as any machine eprom is capable of a static malfunction due to mishandling.A problem i would be interested to hear about as all the years been working on electrocoins the most common fault on the s barx is because the board is mounted vertical, being the game e prom or security chip card is loose or actually falling out of its socket.
Even electrocoins manual refers and Quote"Error code'F' ROM checksum error,ROM pins bent ROM NOT CORRECTLY INSERTED,Faulty ROM.
fixWorked for me no problem everytime.

Machine Doctor, your are correct, all machines proms are open to static risk, but some of the earlier electrocoin machines proms are a higher risk as they used cheaper grade materials to create the proms. Is this bar-x machine in question a front or back opening machine?

Hi all.... was away for an age then lost my log on details so sorry for the long time since reply.

I have checked all the chips on this, and they are in secure.. I have aso checked that the battery has not leacked and corroded anything.

Getting to the MPU is via the rear, it is mounted horizontaly on a shelf, below the reels, and over the PSU.. if that helps.

the counter is a refill meter and if it is the original bar x ,you can't "turn it down" as it is a fixed %

....So did anyone work out the mystery fix for the Electrocoin 'f' fault?

I've just had two go down with this same fault - and I've checked the battery and chips - both which seem seated correctly and no leakage!

I suspect either the ROMS are goosed, or the mystery fix is needed

Many thanks

Needs news roms burning most likely, yes.

Regarding your Epoch battery thread that has somehow become locked,

Yes the battery will need replacing, although they are rechargeable it will be past it.

You could fit 3 aaa instead to make up the 3.6 volts, but it would most likely toast the charge circuit (the standard battery is only about 70mAh!).

It's best to fly-lead the battery off the board to avoid problems.

If you want a battery pm me.

the 'f' error is in every case ive dealt with down to the I/O driver boards for the flourescent tubes, as these crappy little boards are driven from the main MPU - always the same, disconnect the power plug from these 4 boards and i bet it works
