MAYGAY Epoch Battery techy questions!

Post by PinWiz »

Hi Everyone,

Just a quick fault with an Epoch board. The battery has dropped below 1v (I removed it from the board before long term storage - I learned my lessons!).

My question is as follows - is the battery rechargeable? If so, I'll re-attatch using a set of wires (keeping it away from the board) - and presume the machine will recharge it. If not, I presume it's a new one :0(

The battey looks to be 3.6v - which I presume holds the memory. What's to stop you from fitting THREE 1.5v batteries (slightly used of course), thus having a remote battery holder, with 3.6v?

IF it's a recharging circuit, I can imagine this may overload it?

Many thanks :0)

Welcome Pin. We have a technical area at the bottom of the board. Plenty of helpful guys there.

I'll move the post there.

Most of them are around in the evening, after work.

Ah, the thread is unlocked again!

To copy and paste from the other thread:

Yes the battery will need replacing, although they are rechargeable it will be past it.

You could fit 3 aaa instead to make up the 3.6 volts, but it would most likely toast the charge circuit (the standard battery is only about 70mAh!).

It's best to fly-lead the battery off the board to avoid problems.

If you want a battery pm me.

Edit - they are actually 15mAh, so rigging up 3 aaa batteries is out of the question!

Thanks for your replies!

Oops, yes I think I may stay clear of putting anything other than the original on.

I'm going to see if this one here (low voltage but looks mint) will charge up, and if not, I will take you up on your offer. I have several scrap maygay boards here, although I assume the batteries are no good either.

Cheers.

Yep they do tend to die if they are not charged regularly, or if they get exposed to heat/cold extremes. Or just from age.
Worth a try seeing if it will recharge, as long as it is mounted off the board it's safe!
