CL Final

Post by mjd »

unlucky arsenal. Great effort! I thought the ref did them a massive favour with the Lehmann sending off.. It kept it 0-0, and that was vital!

once it went 1-1 though that was it..

Like MJD said, once it went 1-1 i thought that was it. Barca deserved the victory in the end but i would have liked to have seen the barca goal given and just a yellow for Jens. That would have made it a lot better game than it was.

That was the most clear-cut sending off I've ever seen. The ref had absolutely no choice.

Here's a question that we were arguing about last night. A ref can play on after a foul, then after the ball has gone out of play, go back and book the player who committed the foul... however, can he also go back and send the player off? Or if he wants to send the player off, does he have to stop play there and then (like he did last night).

just back from fun weeks training.

I was watching the match with a lad who is a fourth official up in the SPL.

He agreed it was a sending off and the ref had blown the whistle instantly and so playing on was not an option. He did comment that he might have counted to three before blowing to see if the goal had gone in and then yellow carded lehman instead.

So far as I understand it he cant let play on then go back and red card

I always understood if the advantage was there then 'play on' so too speak.

Bit of catch 22, even if the goalie got the ball he'd have been outside the area and got sent off anyway.

the ref has to make a judgement call though on whether or not to play on an advantage and whether there is one at all.

In that instance he possibly could have done, really a ref should count to three before blowing a whistle to see what else could come about.

Dont think the sending off would have changed the overall outcome of the game though. Without the sending off and 1-0 down Arsenal would not have sat so deep. Would have given the anonymous Ronaldinho much more chance to weave his magic and prob would have still won
