and i wouldnt take SWP , he's not got a look in at chelsea and hasnt played much , this is not because im a spurs fan , really it isnt, but i would take aaron lennon instead. he's playing really well and is like shit off a stick with his pace, which we all know frightens defenders silly.

To be honest I think Owen is a waste of space. If Rooney is definitely out then we can't get away with relying on Michael '1 goal a blue moon for England' Owen. Shame Robbie Keane isn't English.

Sort of picks it self really and is the team i think Sven will pick if Roonys out. Would of liked to see them put Carrick in Mid and play Owen up front on his own but it's a bit late for trying new things now.

crouch no way, only as a sub if we get desperate and need height - yes i know thats whatit will be, but it shouldnt - even if we have to god forbid have to use defoe

I would play

Robinson - GK

G Neville - RB
Ferdinand - CB
Terry - CB
Ashley Cole - LB

Beckham - RMF
Carrick - DMF
Lampard - CM/AMF
Gerrard - CM/AMF
Joe Cole - LMF

Owen - CF

Gerrard and Lampard need a license to attack. We've all seen it before that they try and get tied up in tracking back with no DMF, and it detracts from their natural games. Both have 20 goals this season from idfield, why not let them push on? Carrick has been excellent for spurs, and i've been very impressed with him when he has played for England.

If the team plays well we can get away with one striker i think. I just wouldn't play any of the others, except to perhaps bring Crouch on to ruffle things up. Defoe is greedy and selfish, and i'm not a fan of AJ.

I like your team Matt (like the one i mentioned  ) but i get worried that it wouldn't work and Owen would become isolated on his own?

Maybe he will try it in a friendly?

My worries too lads. I think its quite worrying that the birth place of football only has one world class striker in Michael Owen. I'm not counting Rooney, as he plays just behind. If the best we can come up with is crouch, god help us!

I reckon any of the lower league strikers that have done well this year could do a better job.

Dave Kitson - Reading
Freddie Eastwood - Southend
Karl Hawley - Carlisle

Give one of those a go! :P :D

As for Carrick, i think he is talented enough to hold the midfield. He actually plays there for Spurs when needed, and hasn't let them down. He was outstanding against Bolton, which is kudos to him with the way they play. I'd definitely play him, but its all opinion of course.
