Hi,

Im after a new car, as someone decided to to smash into the back of mine while it was parked, and then managed to drive off. Mine has been written off.. grrr!

I want something with a bit of oomph for a year or two before I settle down properly and need to buy a family car.

Old car was a Hyundai coupe v6. My budget is about 6k, but could probably go to 10k if I find one i really like.

I dont want a soft-top, would be no good parking it where I live and no good for winter really! Mx-5 and similar are too small.

Been looking at Astras and similar, but decided I dont really like the styling.

I dont know a lot about cars, found a vauxhall vxr in a showroom which looked cool.. got home, looked on autotrader and found out its a corsa. Any good?

Suggestions please!

Mike.

Thats strange..

If there are people around who smash into the back of parked cars in your area, id buy something that nobody would really want to steal, and then park it next to something more flash!

As Top Gear proved a while ago in their 'pixo' test (can't remember the manufacturer), on 6K you can get a lot of car!

Ive driven many cars Mr Admin. In order..,
Volvo. Horrible, lumpy crap but only had to replace tyres in 80,000 miles
cavalier. Smoky as hell.
citrone. Hydralic suspension and i broke it.
Orion. Loads of problems with this. Mr Glendale would never pay for repairs.
Carlton. The best. Got it off superskill for £175. Would advise one of these.

i will say this though ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, if your only planning on keeping it for 1 maybe 2 years ,,,,,,,,,,,,,, why spend 6 to 10 k ???

maybe a trayhop 1k banger special is what you need ? ,,,,,,,,, astra's have the required oomph

save the rest of the cash in a high interest account for the two years ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, then spend it on your desired family car.

LOL some people like to have fun with their cars and not buy bangers Lee!!!

I've gone to a 2 litre focus recently, its ok, but not great, not a fun drive, will have to change in a year or so...

:P yeah i know rich m8 ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, ide love an open top diesel smart car meself ,,,,,,,, but for practicality reasons the mrs wont allow it (ebay pickups and nights out with friends etc),,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, or an imported beach buggy would be great fun to drive , but i suppose they would be expensive to import ,,,,,,,,, and expensive to order parts etc , not to mention the british weather lol. ,,,,,,,, ,,,,,,,,,,,,,, i like the mini too ,,,,,,,,,,, i just like small nippy cars that are easy to manoeuvre and park in pub car parks etc.

cant stand big cars.

Not much fun to be had on the road. Too many who drive like idiots and have little consideration for others!

My Seat Leon (similar to VW Golf) is quite fun to drive, not bad MPG, not bad looking and reliable.

(Cue going outside tomorrow and the bastard won't start).
