Time to Admit

Post by mjd »

I Think City will top the table this year..

Ive no idea how much they have spent, but its a large figure. How can an investment of that size not lead to success?

And how can an endless amount of money not lead to success?

We are as good as ever (maybe).. Im not sure if we are as good as endless cash.. :?

But they'll probably finish 4th or 5th.

It's yet another building season(again)

Incomparable if you ask me.

United won their first title under Ferguson and spent the proceeds on better players, and built a successful brand based on things they won under the stewardship of a clever manager. Hence their investments have gotten larger in line with their achievements. Their spending ability does partly come from wealthy backers but massively from their club-built success.

City have started with a base of, er, nothing - infact they were a Championship club not all that long ago - and have simply thrown silly money at their inability to win anything meaningful.

So if anyone is more guilty of attempting to buy a title, it's City by a country mile.

You could add Tevez, and Milner to that list, and even the very cheap Adam Johnson, and oh yeah, Balotelli..

Just checked the internet, and you could also add :

Robinho - £32.5M
Gareth Barry - 12M
Wayne Bridge - £10M
Craig Bellamy - £14M
Shay Given - £5.9M
Santa Cruz - £17.5M
Adebayor - £25M
Kolo Toure - £16M
Jerome Boateng - £10.4M
Aleksander Kolarov - £16M

Despite most of those not wearing the blue shirt no more, we have also sold a lot of players for good money over time.

That aside last campaign we got 50M (so I heard) for getting to the Campions League final.

De Gea, Young, and Jones came in for approx 50M.. So sounds about right really.

Probably doesn't reflect my true mindset my first post. Was a bit drunk. However they are looking dangerous with regards to winning the premiership. What I was thinking at the time was £70 jackpot will enevitably be got with endless money. Profit or not!

If norwich had the money that city and united did are you telling me they wouldn't spend it Cros?

Those players that you mentioned wouldnt get a look in if they had millions in the bank!!

Thats the state of football today unfortunately, which is why Norwich will either be relegated or just avoid the drop this season.

Eventually tho relegation will be inevitable, unless you become a stoke or a bolton and remain in the league for 2 or 3 years to enable you to compete with the other sides outside the top 4/5/6.

It can be done but its fucking hard!!! Just look at the stats.

I honenstly think theres half a dozen sides in the prem who we are better than

wolves, wigan, swansea, sunderland, bolton and blackburn

and yeah, obviously if we had the money we would spend it, but its refreshing that we haven't, and if/when we get relegated, we have players who wont want to leave, who aren't on big wages, and who will help us regain premiership status....also I reckon our bank balance is looking mighty healthier than previous years, as we only spent about 7/8 million in the summer

Thats what West Brom did really, didnt over spend went up and down a bit but now with Hodgson in charge I reckon they'll be OK.

I think Bolton are underperforming and will pull out of it. Wolves had a good start but will always be down there.

Swansea, yourselves, Wigan(altho they have a great manager), Blackburn, Wolves, QPR are the obvious candidates and possibly a surprise team could get dragged in(maybe Everton???) Fulham are normally good enough at home to stay up. I think Sunderlands squad is to good for them to stay in trouble.

Gonna be an interesting season both at the bottom and at the top!!
