Wonders of the World..

Post by mjd »

I think we shall create a thread which dedicates itself to the wonders of the world.. theres a lot out there..

I will start with a natural wonder of the world... And its a worthy starter..

Natural wonders will always eclipse anything that can be made by man.

I studied Geology and Oceanography at university and it really does give you an entirely different look on the world. The awesome powers that are involved in creating the sites that we see around the world are simply mind blowing.

One of my favourites has always been the Caldera's (or super volcano if you watched the program)

Their size is just unimaginable. The perfect example was when scientists were finding igneous (volcanic) rocks in Yellowstone park but couldnt work out why becuase there was no volcano in the area. It wasnt until orbital satellites took a picture of yellowstone park that they realised the volcano mouth was the park itself. A volcano some 77 Km across!!!!!

The tv program recently highlighted this and although reasonable close to the truth missed a few points. The main one being that if this thing goes off again it will wipe out life in the Americas all together

Anyone who survives will probably wish they hadn't... so much ash will be in the air that the sun's rays won't be able to penetrate... crops will be ruined and the earth's temperature will plummet...

yip, and that cloud would likely cover the earth for in the region of 3 years. For those who wanna see just how big this caldera is on a map take a look at the following.

Theres so many skyscrapers in the world, and they all have their different characteristics.. However the Tuntex Sky Tower in Kaohsiung in Taiwan looks something astonishing, magnificent and very different.. its impressive as is the photo below.. They went mental with the design, and it turned out to be a piece of brilliance..

An engineering Marval. Thousands of tonnes of Earth moved into the center of Osaka Bay to Create this airport. you would visit that place JUST TO SEE that airport! then enjoy your stay. How do they do it? How do they do it?
This is a wonder of the world, and I think one of the greatest..
