I completely disagree with the last few posts, but understand the feeling.

The girl I talked about certainly committed crime to feed her addiction. I don't think violence towards anyone, but certainly theft. Doesn't change the fact she's a bit of a hero of mine for turning her life around.

Drug addicts who attack people to feed their habits are in pretty desperate states. Certainly at that point custodial action needs to be taken and forced rehab as part of punishment should also be used.

Like most local newspapres, mine contains the same few names in the "In Court" section. local scum bags who steal form shops and attack people for money. I've also had personal run ins with some of them in the past when I worked in an Off-license. It's easy to fall into the trap of hating these people and wanting to write them off. I also used to serve a lovely couple in their 50s in a local pub I worked in, who's son I'd known for many years. Addiction had made him steal from his parent and regularly attack his brothers. He's still on and off the drugs now, but at primary school he was a decent kid.

Try and be a bit more understanding with these people. I know it's hard, but they all have back stories.

they all do pete m8 ,,,,,,,,,,,,, and im sure in some extreme cases young girls have been force fed the stuff to make them dependant , and forced into prostitution etc

but for all the other addicts ,,,,,,,,,,,,, fuck em ,,,,,,,,, because nobody forced em to take that very first hit ,,,,,,,,,, they knew it was wrong at the time , yet went ahead anyhow ......

The problem is Pete, it could be your mum, sister, auntie or nan that these people rob and beat up. I know some good people who are scared to move out of their home because some scummy piece of shit robbed them one night years ago! :x The victims suffer for life unfortunately.

Empathy, a word often bandied around. Try empathising with a heroin addict as he threatens you with a used needle.
