in my experience of swp word games (and i am quite good at them), less is often more. as for those definitions, most of that, with respect, is hooey. foreign words are all very well if they are in usage but when speaking in English how often would you have occasion to use the word for a portuguese money of account, in value about one tenth of a cent? i'm not even sure what that means.
such words were assimilated by wordlist dictionaries (no meanings) for unambitious wordgamers who ENTIRELY MISS THE *UCKING POINT ABOUT WORD GAMES. they are about words. words can't have any value without meaning. what satisfaction can there be in learning what combination of letters are allowable? is it not hugely more edifying to (for example) see CHTHONIC amongst CCHHINOT?
that brings me on to games: any game is played in leisure time, that is what 'game' means. so surely a game should be pleasurable in some way? i prefer not to spend my leisure time weeping silently for the death of the soul.
anyway back on track after that little tantrum.
word up is currently the most enjoyable of the genre. very replayable, chance of getting a few quid and it doesn't allow things like QAT. it is popular not just with the best players but also joe public. it has been around for four years. only wwtbam and hangman predate it in the swp sphere.
on the other hand, word cube allows many, many more words and is therefore not a test of skill but one of endurance. n.b. as a capable wordgamer this also makes it very easy to win the JP (i can win ten times as much from this non-word game than WU, the current market leader) but i don't consider this a true word game as it relies on speed more than knowledge.

Argh, I was hoping with hope that 'QAT' wouldn't put in an appearance here! LOL
No, you are right though UP, there's no point in including words such as those above, as they will just lead to both the pissing off of 'wordists' and joe public alike. (My problem is removing them all from the dictionary, although that's another debate!).
I'm by no means a whizz at word games, but I still do enjoy my words - in this case, so long as they are true, valid, current English words...

"And do you ever contradict yourself, Minister?" "Well, yes and no..."
