i'd be surprised if a 2pence coin from 1982 would have any value; you can still buy presentation sets of any year for baby presents, coming-of-age, time capsules etc.
however, there was another coin cock-up with 2p coins the year after. in 1983 (once decimalisation was a memory) the reverse wording changed from NEW PENCE to TWO PENCE. so there are some circulating NEW 1983 coins which are worth more than face value.

afraid you are wrong JPFUK. the change was made in 1982 but the following year a small batch was made with the wrong die. don't believe everything you read.jpfuk wrote:![]()

you will find it's 1982... as stated.....
also, i've had a bit more time to research the 20p story]rare[/i]. i doubt there are 200,000 people who collect coins seriously enough to want one for £50 so the market is in favour of the buyers, especially with so much media interest at the moment. this London mint company is up to something, i don't know what but if they are willing to take £500,000 on the chin then they must think it is worthwhile.
as for the NEW 2p coins from 1983, a reputable dealer has quoted a guide price in mint condition at £250. circulated coins are still a curiosity and would fetch about £100 if you found somebody who wanted one for their collection.
nobody ever wins on those things.
