I made a post in the quiz section about Scotland being the only unbeaten team in the 1974 finals (as W Germany lost a match to E Germany in the first round)... has there been any other team who have gone out the WC unbeaten ? (i guess you were looking for answers rather than questions!)
..
1958 was certainly remarkable, cos (I think) that England, Wales and N. Ireland all got to the quarter finals.
.....
i'll keep thinking ...

Bert Patenaude scored the first World Cup hat-trick in 1930 and three days later Guillermo Stábile scored one too.
No wonder I drink!

The current combination of 32 teams has never played in the World Cup final stages before.
The odds of a 32 team recurrence are just under 1 in 3 trillion (equivalent to building 12,000 Empire State Buildings to Mercury and back).
The teams will munch their way through over 500,000 flapjacks over the course of the tournament.
