Had this on a quizzer the other day...
I think the choices were Ash, Oak and Beech - I went for oak and can't remember if I got it right or not, so I'll just guess it again.

erm. willow sounds good to me, mainly because it is a beautiful word.

Go me!
Right, apologies for the slightly-crap question, but I can't think of anything better.
What do Captain Mainwaring and Niles Crane (from Frasier) have in common?

Nope. We're talking characters here...
Al Borland (Home Improvement) and Hyacinth Bucket also have a similar association.

Fair enough, but you might be better going with Mainwaring than Le Mesurier.
You're not right, but it does have something to do with Hyacinth's son...

I was going to say it's to do with the pronunciation of the surname.
Mainwaring - "Mannering"
Bucket - "Bouquet"
But now you mention her son "Sheridan"... ... ...
"And do you ever contradict yourself, Minister?" "Well, yes and no..."

Ah, you never see 'a part' (loosely!) of them'?
Mainwarings Wife
Buckets Son
Al's face (fully)...
"And do you ever contradict yourself, Minister?" "Well, yes and no..."
