Nope. It does involve a musical instrument, but not in the normal way you'd expect.

Is a bow used to play the strings inside the piano as a performer would do on a standard stringed instrument?

Verrry close...

In fact, I'll give it to you. The BBC Radiophonic Workshop created the sound by scraping the strings of a piano (with a pair of keys apparantly, although that's not certain) and slowing down the recording.

The aliterative word used in the comic strip is "vworp", which, to my mind at least, sounds absolutely nothing like the actual noise.

I'm going to say 27. My logic being that as it's a cube, and hence 3D, only three sides would be 'visible' at any one time?
