Did he get busted by fingerprinting or DNA evidence from something he left on the things he sent? Hair, sweat etc?

Nope. It was actually as a result of his taunts to the polis.

He didn't send it via email, but you're on the right tracks.

He didn't email his taunts, but he did send them as an electonic letter.

So how did he get caught?

Nope. None of the above!

Big clue. He sent in a word document on floppy disk...

Aha, did Word automatically put his name into the doc properties?

Close. He was actually sending the letter from his local church. He wrote it in MS Word, then saved it on a disk and sent it to the police. Little did he realise , but his username and name of the church were in the metadata. A schoolchild could have found this information - and he was arrested not long later.

Having evaded capture for 20 years, he had sent a postcard to the cops asking if he could be traced by sending in a disk. They took out a newspaper advert and said no, so he went ahead with it!

Could he not fit all his gloating on the postcard? ;)

Okay, what is Issac Asimov's famous "Triumph of science over religion"?
