From reading the Metro this morning, I believe that was refering to the announcement today that July 1st will be the date the smoking ban comes into force. So nope.

Yup, the end.
It was also Barbados' Independence Day (from Britain, 1966), Andres Bonifacio Day in The Philippines, Cities for Life Day (300 cities around the world declare their opposition to the death penalty) and National Methamphetamine Awareness Day in the US (sounds fun!).
