Cheers Harry - can't believe that James Clerk Maxwell hasn't featured on our currency yet, his day will come surely.

An easy question: how many grams in 1 ounce of gold?

Approx 28 g in a conventional ounce, but haven't a clue with Troy weights.

Far too easy for you knowledgable chaps - a bonus "well done" comment for anyone that does know the Troy ounce weight (we'll negate the .1g part of it).

I would go for 12 Troy in a pound therefore troy is 16/12 heavier. So 28*1 1/3 would be between 37 and 38g?

Aye as near as damn it, it's 31.1grams

A troy pound is 12 troy ounces @ 31.1 grams
A pound is 16 ounces @ 28.3 grams

So a troy ounce is heavier than an ounce, but a pound is heavier than a troy pound.
