okay 80% of venus fly traps in u.s. homes die when the owners feed them inappropriate food like pretzels and boo berry marshmallows. but that is by the way.

in the wild, on average, how many flies does each plant trap in its lifetime?

I used to own a venus fly trap and feed it bits of ham, but that's by the by as well. I also watched Day of the Triffids serialization last night, but that's even less relevant.

However, given that a fly will probably last it a good month per snappy guy, and each plant has about 5 snappy guys, I'm going to guess 5 snappy guys * 10 years (plucked that figure out the year rather like a venus fly trap catches an insect).... =

600 flies

hmmm. i know that they take at least a month to eat a fly, and they can probably go a few months without one, I'd say 3 per year * 5 years = 15 flies?

Alright, I'll go for 5 then. And if that charlatan Matt swoops in to steal the spoils, I will be somewhat miffed.

yep. if you are a venus fly trap you can expect to get 1.08 flying meals during your lifetime. (what they don't tell you is that they don't actually need flies to survive; apparently they can get all their nutrients from the soil. but that is not very exciting.) anyway one was near enough so over to His Eminennce.

coming to think about it, mine never caught a fly in its life, so it's not very surprising.

Right, bit of a different one this time.... more a puzzle than a trivia question.

A woman, while at the funeral of her own mother, met a guy whom she did not know. She thought this guy was amazing. She believed him to be her dream guy so much, that she fell in love with him right there, but never asked for his number and could not find him. A few days later she killed her sister.

Question: What is her motive for killing her sister?
