I seem to remember a dodgy fixture where the league played the england team to mark a centenary or some such- does the answer have anything to do with that game?
That was my first guess as well. And no it doesn't have anything to do with that game (which was 1988 IIRC), as that was a Football League XI rather than an England XI and they played a Rest of the World XI

Played for England, and played against them for the Hong Kong Golden Select XI in the build up to Euro 96 (The "dentists chair" trip).
