Techically incorrect. The worlds first compact disc was invented and prototyped by James T. Russel.

What connects the following ?

A Martin Scorcese Film about a child prostitute

A quintessential English film set in a sixties boarding school

A baddie in a BBC sci-fi series

A famous nineteenth century American soldier.

Okay, so...

Taxi Driver
If
(guess) The Master
(guess) Custer

Er...

EDIT: I think I've got it, but I only guessed it by looking up one of the movies in question. So I'll abstain. But both my guesses above were wrong. ;)

Ditto for If, know number 3 but no idea with 4 so I will also abstain

First two are spot on. 3 and 4 not.

My current guess is that #3 is Blake's 7, correct? I also have no idea about the fourth.

I agree that 3 is also Blakes 7 but even with the use of the interweb I cannot find an obvious tie in between the answer and the fourth clue :?

Doesn't look like anyone's going to get this, so I'll go for it, despite using the web. A bit.

I got the first two films, but couldn't see a connection. So I looked at the cast list for Taxi Driver. That showed up the lead character called Travis Bickle. That immediately made me think of Blake's 7 (me a fanboy ;) ) and the villan called Travis in the first two seasons.

I checked the cast list for If..., and Malcolm McDowell's character is called Mick Travis. So, I assumed there must be a famous American Civil War soldier called Travis, but I've only just checked now and there is: Lieutenant Colonel William Barret Travis, who was at the Alamo.

Judge for yourself how much I cheated. ;)
