How about them self exclusion things? heres a little story you may relate too.....my mate once went to the co-op for some bacon and eggs, he took £10 cash with him, the bookies is next door and the gambler in him said i'll nip in for a quick dabble on roulette and win enough to pay for my shopping, the £10 went first spin, he went home for more money and done a grand shortly afterwards, a very expensive sandwich, roulette is the crack cocaine of the gambling world!

........roulette is the crack cocaine of the gambling world!

Never a truer word spoken Eddie and the most I've ever lost on one is £20, which infuriated me. Such horrible machines which must have caused so much heartache and feelings of emptiness to many.

The punter has no edge whatsoever.

Well look at it this way. The most you can win on these things is £500 which won't even begin to buy back all the things you lost, so there's no point in even trying!

Bob, I sympathise with you mate, the next time you are tempted just take a minute to think about how sick you will be feeling when walking out with nothing. Really visualise it. Visualise those losing numbers coming in, over and over again. Really feel the pain of it. Then think how lucky you are to have the money still in your pocket. Say "fuck you bookmakers" under your breath and move on....

Try it.

Bob666- you have accomplished the hardest step it admitting the problem. Well done with the honesty.

It’s something nearly everybody on this site has experienced. I only became “in the know” after a youthful fascination with the things, not before significant losses I add.

I know you shouldn’t start a sentence with but, BUT those roulette machines are the most blatant example of a gambling addict in a person. Corporate junkies devise them, getting fat off bonuses [we’ve all heard that recently], without incite into what it does to the man in the street. They are the root of all evil, the cause of many a broken life.

You have to stop, because you cannot win.

This is not an attempt to be condescending, just a short-sharp analysis of the facts.

Please PM me for some friendly advice, it's a community.

There is an end.

Peace.

Brilliant sentiments from MM and McS there. I can't really top that. Most people on this forum will relate to losing money on machines and will be sympathetic, *most* people, not all.

This corrupt government allowed FOBT's into bookmakers after being lobbied by the industry without a real thought of the consequences. I'm sure a few sweeteners (backhanders) were thrown in. Roulette and blackjack should be restricted to casinos. Full stop.

Stop is the best advice. But that's easy to say.

Take up quiz machines. Getting good at these takes about 8 hrs practise a day for around 3 months depending on which game(s) you target. If you do it seriously it's a/ Quite fulfilling and b/ Means you have no time to play roulette

Once you get to the stage of winning £80-£90 a day for 'risking' £5-£7, you then wonder why you ever put £1 on a roulette table in the first place.

It's not what Gamcare will tell you but it's got a few people I know off gambling.

Well said

Its suprising how many cheap things you can do instead..

In a pub I used to think 'Rip off' - 50p for a game of pool..

When you think 50p a spin on a fruit machine you kind of realise that a game of pool which takes up say 10/20 minutes is great value.. Just an example..

A gambler will lose £1000 in the bookies then walk half a mile to Tesco's to buy a can of Coke which is 10p cheaper than the corner shop.
Roulette free since December 2011.
