Grand National 2008

Post by Mattb »

Only a week away folks. I don't know a great deal about the nags in general, so do we have any tips?

I see the favourite has been getting rave reviews, is it worth a tenner?

Any 33/1+ horses for an outside each way bet?

Got stung last year by Silver Birch, hoping to do better this year!

Tbh mate, pick what you want. I usually have an e/w banker and then pick the kids birth dates...

I have 5 in all. My banker and 4 " special dates"

If 1 pops up at a decent price then your ok.

Usually spend 20 quid.

Will have a bit on Philsun run, Simon & Mckelvey, all each way. All ran well last year (albeit Simon fell somewehere near the end but was jumping fluently at the time!), and are available at reasonable prices.

Never in a million years is it worth backing a horse in the national at 6-1 so would avoid the temptation to back Cloudy lane despite all the hype.

Whatever you back, best to do it online as some companies offer each way up to 5th place.

Philsun Run was a decent horse not too long ago, didn't it win the Welsh National?

I might plump for Baily Breeze at a big 66/1 e/w shout.

And back at a bookies doing 5 places.

Also some bookies are now doing NRNB so if your backing early get on with them.

I like Turko for the national. Been running in good races lately. Can get 48 on betfair. Does anyone no what price it is in the bookies?

33's at Laddies which I think is the best available.

See PN has tipped this up in the racing post so it might shortern today.

Might want to back on a NRNB as I understand if they can not get a topclass jockey he is unlikely to run.

cant see past Mckelvey , placed last year - currently 20/1 , hoping that if the favourite shortens up then the price on a few others should lengthen - people asking about odds should google ' odds comparison ' - there are lots of sites to compare and contrast bookies odds

Forget the older horses, 11 or older. The race now is nothing much more than a super long distance handicap run at a faster pace than a generation ago.

For all you horse racing fans watch two greats here

These are championship races

Turko will run now unless there is a unforseen event as R Johnson has been booked to ride him.

I'm backing King johns castle. A mate tipped the winner last year a week before the race but I didn't back him so this year I'm going with him.
