Does anyone think that any of the current games out there have what you would say was offensive in them. Using a game like Megabucks Coffee for instance, a game where it has offended someone so much they decided to take away any signs of binge drinking or smoking.
I expect that the reason Megabucks Coffee changed was more because of an over-anxious decision-maker at Leisure Link / ItBox than because some Mary Whitehouse figure complained.
Personally I'm a broad-minded chap and can't imagine ever getting offended at an SWP. That said, my wife has pointed out before that one or two games use rather sexist and out-dated images of women - Back to Skool comes to mind at the moment, and I'm sure there's been similar in the past (AllStar Quiz?) Also, I guess if you're offended by Nuts / Zoo etc. there's a good chance you won't like the Nuts game.
And just occasionally I've seen questions being asked about e.g. celebrity deaths, or with inappropriate wrong options, where you could imagine some busybody getting irate and 'phoning the Sun - can't think of any examples but occasionally I've thought this.

What offends me more than anything is some of the drivel that passes for question compilation. It's particularly extreme when spoiler questions are badly enough done that they take answers which turn out to be wrong on further investigation.
I have noticed a few interesting changes to some questions/answers though, e.g.
the old Maygay question set (Risk, Aladdin's Cave, Strike it Rich et al.) had a question where it asked "What is David Blunkett's disability" and one of the suggested answers was "he is a member of the Labour Party".
When a subset of these Maygay questions were transplanted onto another machine (I think it's 1v100) the third answer had mutated to "he is a pathological liar".

From the vaults:
Some of us might have found this question a little offensive; personally I thought it was great!Nil Satis wrote:Spotted on Every Loser Wins:
Question: Where would you find Nil Satis, grecian, unknownpseudonym and Ernest W Quality?
Answers:
A - at a "saddoes" convention
B - on a quiz machine website
C - in the Beano comic
I'm paraphrasing slightly but this is surely real fame at last!

I've seen a few questions which appeared to give grounds for legal action. I've got definite memories of a 90s machine which mentioned Cecil Parkinson's illegitimate daughter by name; my understanding of the situation (though I could be mistaken) was that he had obtained an injunction which forbade publicly mentioning her until she reached 18.
That's a great example DMAC - yes, I thought it was a bit off including something like that. If her friends or family were playing JB and saw that (which I concede is unlikely, although the question did seem to come up pretty often), they'd be horrified.dmac wrote:PMP has a couple of blatantly unPC categories.
For some reason questions about celeb deaths seem fair game to me, but ones about ordinary folk (e.g. Patel-Nasri in Jiggybank) seem inappropriate.

That's odd CP - Wikipedia states that the injunction was in place between 1993 and 2001, when Flora Keays turned 18, but I definitely remember reading lots about the scandal and Flora Keays' existence prior to 2001. I can only presume that must have been before 1993 - perhaps the quiz question you saw pre-dated that period?

frankly this is all ridiculous imo. every pub has people effing and blinding, so does every bus stop, chemist and creche. i don't approve but that is the way it is. these words exist and people have the choice whether they want to say them or not.
south park is an infantile programme for backward people who don't understand dull or no dull. the game is okay but, again imo, it is a wasted licence. it bears no resemblance to the show (not that i've ever deliberately watched it).
as for scoreboards disallowing bad swears, this has to be a good thing, sometimes idle modes flash these up and fragile old biddies might swoon or children get even more bad habits if they saw WIZARD's SLEEVE in great big letters taunting them from the SWP.
something which could offend me if i could be bothered is WOG and YID being allowed in wordgames (meanwhile wet swears like FART and PISS are manually extracted from the wordlist). afaik, these words have no other meaning than the indefensible racism.
in other news, my dear grandmother once tried to play FUCK in scrabble, she didn't know what it meant but she had heard people say it on channel 4.

nobody ever wins on those things.
