Okay people, so me n my mate finished work and were heading towards one of our regular IT box haunts.

There are three or four around Barnsley and Wakefield that we regulary go into for the quiz machines.

Variety is the spice of life and all that sh*te, so does anyone no of any other sociable pubs that hold the machines of fun / source of monetary gain, which are kept up to date and enjoy giving out money in the Wakefield / Barnsley area...........

If you don't go in to certain pubs though, you don't know where they are do you? It's not as if pubs advertise the fact they have a quiz machine inside with big blue neon lights.

I know of
The Eastfield Arms
The Chestnut Tree
The Fleets
The Pack Horse

The Bluebell seems to be stuck in the late 90's, and there is one in the Metrodome.

The Kings Head in Mapplewell has one, but I can't think of many around the Mapplewell / Darton area.

Ha! You can't beat the people on Benefits who think they can turn their £40 job seekers into a few grand. Add to the fact Barnsley is renowned for people who have been professional gamblers before and they tell everyone about their experiences.

I don't go in to the centre, so I am not going to tread on your toes as some people seem to think in this thread. Jeezus.

I know Walkabout has a half decent one if the coins are ever accepted, Joseph Brammar and Yates' aren't oo bad neither.

Well here's a tip - walk up to pubs you don't usually go to, open the door and look inside. It works wonders!! :D

Money goes in, it will come out if you can be bothered to put in a little effort.

I think this is pretty much the jist of the thread though.

There are regular pubs he tends to go in - local to him. Now Barnsley covers quite a big area, so what is the point of driving around on a whim that their might be a quiz machine.

And if I am honest, I loathe walking in a pub, to walk back out, start the car back up, move on to the next one and repeat.

It was a simple question, does anyone know of any pubs in Barnsley or Wakefield that have quiz machines. If anyone wants to divulge whether they are profitable that is down to personal choice, but if anyone local to that area knows of pubs that have quiz machines, why not share and say such-and-such pub if fairly decent, has good ale and it also has a quiz machine, try it sometime.

Yes, but coping with that process if one of the challenges of being a decent machine player. Many people on this forum will have done exactly that and you can't expect them to divulge their hard-won knowledge willy-nilly. I'd imagine a good part of being a pro is being able to locate machines in a disciplined way.

Not as bad as walking into a pub spotting a machine, ordering a pint only to find that someone has gazumped you whilst the barmaid was fiddling unnecessarily with your change.

you've hit the nail on the head NM. it is confounded if there is no sport on/you've already done the crossword/you are the only other bastard in the whole pub

I would love to be considered to be a pro-quiz machine(er), but alas, I am not. I plough my fair share – granted - and get some reward, but I can’t in any way say I make money.

I have been a lurker on the site for a while, and it seems like a website with some very good posters with differing levels of experience. I moved away from Fruit Machine (in a sense) since the days of Psycho Cash Beast, Big Cheese, Top Dog and Spiker the Biker. There what got me hooked and now they lack imagination and game play. I moved to quiz machines to test my knowledge and have fun playing, I, in no way expected to be able to judge quiz machines like I could fruities, nor did I expect jackpots to be obtained as regularly. For me, it’s a couple of pints a test of my knowledge and hope Spot the Difference has a couple of quid on Level 6, Monopoly is kind enough to give me 3 decent amounts, and Deal or No Deal maybe by 40000 or less to play the prize board.. A few quid on Blockbusters, Nuts, Hex and the odd lucky run to the £20 on Fantasy Football League and I am content.

I suppose there are pro’s on here, people with uber intelligence and a memory like an elephant, but I really don’t understand why people can’t say which pubs in a certain area, have a quiz machine for a care-free dabble.

To be perfectly honest with you, the ones I go on, I couldn’t tell you if they were good or not, they give me money as much as I throw money at it. What’s the difference? Some seem to pay out a lot one day, mainly when I have money in pocket and then fail to deliver when I am counting out shrapnel and scraping pennies together. To me, there is no skill involved, but more a catch-the-machine-right and you’re in luck.

It's not true to say there is no skill involved, but in general making a reasonable amount relies on you hitting a machine (or, rather, a game) which hasn't been played for a while by anyone decent.

For example, all the good WORD UP players in London post in here. Most of them are better than me, but I'm better than most of the rest. If I were trying to make money there would be no point me posting the locations of machines they may not have heard of, because they'll kill them for me. (I personally couldn't care less but it's just an example :) )

I imagine the "pros" in here are very defensive, because none of them live in London, so they have a smaller pool of machines to live off. In fact, they seem pretty defensive about most things ...

Agree. Not something I've got close to.

I'm not a pro, and never have been, although I have at times done pretty well out of certain machines and games. However there is now a grand total of TWO pubs left in the country where I know of a machine whose location I would be loath to casually mention; everywhere else is up for grabs as far as I am concerned.

The only tip I could give about finding machines is that in any strange town if you stick to the larger chain-type pubs (Wetherspoons, Walkabout, Yates, O'Neills etc) you are likely to find a quiz machine in 90%+ of them. Whether they are actually worth playing depends on any number of factors but you should at least be guaranteed to find one (or more) in any of those sort of places.

PS If anyone is in or around Birmingham, I know of a machine you should be able to exploit (with one caveat) - PM me for details.
