Nice word on Word Soup

Post by muddle »

I was never much good at this and hardly played it,but I do occasionally check out the high scores. The pub I was in the other day had the highest scoring word of 'mizzenmast' which I thought was quite a nice word. There was a time on here when it was a much discussed topic, and also a really popular punter game.I wonder if a reboot might attract some punter interest. That rarely seen G-Box had a similar game where you had to score so many points on a screen to progress to another - while the G-Box doesn't seem to have caught on ,that game might.

A happier time. Sad to see so many of those venues that have disappeared.

Indeed,Northern Monkey,i wonder how many of those pubs listed are still extant as quiz machine sites. Thanks for the link,Nil Satis, although I occasionally read this forum in those days I never posted and was not aware of that website.I used to enjoy Sum Up too though not sure I can quite remember the rules now.Looking at the different word games on that website does make me think that it would be good to have a new word game.

Word Soup is still on most of the cabinets (not that there are particularly many) around this way (Bexleyheath), but the £1 is usually up at the high 1k+ scores, which even with a board clear is sometimes not available.

I found a pub yesterday that had put its quizzy back in - always cheers me up when that happens. The top word on Word Soup was 'Mizzenmasts' so maybe that's quite a common word amongst the aficionados.
