Phrase that pays? or something lol

In the standalone days it wasn't uncommon for players to exchange location info as not everyone played the same games.

Some of us still do via pm.

Although helps we live at different ends of the country and don't play the same games.

I'm just interested in any location that has a Pub Connect (only know Nothern locations and not aware of any in the South) as that's a pretty rare machine plus any Gamesnet or I Quest that still has the old 32 update on.

So really of the hundreds dotted around the major cities I frequent I'm down to about 25 now nationwide.

Even hearing rumours there was something on with The Phrase that Pays,I couldn't work out what it was,and I found out about Casino Royale and Cash Stacker afterwards,so I suppose that's evidence that fruity players can work things out better than quizzy players.I know nothing about plastic notes, and am not sure I want to! In general,I don't want there to be emptiers;I would prefer that the manufacturers had rigorously tested them so they are simply true tests of skill and knowledge, and I'll back myself to be better than the average player.

Remember fruity players need to resort to underhand methods as they havent got the brain power to win legitimately in a lot of cases and secondly as fruities are their main thing even the ones that are capable of learning a game wouldnt bother as they havent the time . Too much effort for too little gain. The number of fruity players heavily outnumber quiz machine players so they have a greater pool of people to rely on working out emptiers and lastly fruity machine players have been known for paying contacts within the industry thousands for information that can allow them to exploit machines whilst I have never heard this of a SWP player.

OK cool, some of your points are valid but are obviously huge generalisations. I'd guess there is ALOT more to fruit playing than quiz playing and certainly "better brainpower" is required for fruits? Now you obviously know very little about fruits, and maybe I know very little about quizzies but I know which one appears the easiest! From my point of view I'd describe quizzing as 2D, much like the very bottom of the fruit world only knowing the simplest method and replicating? Answering multiple choice questions doesn't leave that much room to show your superior brain power does it?!

You can't seriously be arguing that there is "better brainpower" required to play, to give an example from the past, typical Reds. You could teach a four-year old how to do that. Some things on fruits are really quite clever, like the method for getting cash pot on perfects, the trouble is I bet a select few people worked that out early on and it percolated down, someone probably got seen doing it, somebody else felt the need to brag to someone or to help out a skint mate, etc. I don't agree with cool's insinuation that fruitie players are unintelligent as I know a few who are clearly pretty smart.

The trouble with your statement is that it's a lot more than multiple choice questions, memorising vast amounts of garbage is no mean feat and quite time-consuming. Good quiz players also do far more than that as well, they look for vulnerabilities in game design and the potential cross-application of tricks between games (as I'm sure the smarter fruitie players do). I can't help noticing that fruit empties get regularly hinted at on here, even when they are current. I suppose you can't get 100% of people to keep quiet. The thing is there have been plenty quiz empties around that simply never get mentioned - I've had a few where people have been posting here berating the game in question and all I'll do is chuckle to myself. And if I've known several such empties over the years, apparently unknown to the wider world, it goes without saying that some of the better quiz players will have known ones I don't know about, and we'll never know about unless someone decides to retrospectively show off. Anyway, why all the fuss about empties? These days you're lucky if you get five figures out of one; your regular earners will be more significant long-term.

Also, and I don't really care either way, but there do appear to be a a couple of references within the posts to things that involved illegalities (like putting games back on menus)..

You cannot be serious.I cannot play fruit machines at all , I do honestly have respect for the ability of players to exploit them but come on fruit machine players do exactly the same thing as quiz machine players in that they specialise in the games they like so as we all do they are just finding the simplest method and replicating that on the same machine time and time again. Just because they are known to exploit flaws in quiz machines that doesnt mean they are geniuses , the genius is the one(s) who found it first and either passed it on or sold their knowledge, exactly the same situation exists with the SWP brigade. An ability to play quiz machines well is a sign of intelligence and helps in everyday life , the most demanded man (and it is normally man) in the quiz team and the ability to find something in common with just about everybody as we know a little about a lot of subjects. It can even help with problems we encounter in our day to day lives. The ability to be able to play a fruit machine apart from the fact that it results in far greater financial rewards doesnt amount to a row of beans.

Cool is a little ascerbic there... However I mostly agree with his points. I was saying only yesterday that fruit methods / emptiers are often the results of a massive team effort of lesser minds. They all chat to each other and relate their experiences and with only a limited number of variables to tweak, the best results rise to the top fairly quickly. Generally when I chat to quizzers, I am impressed with their level of intelligence and general knowledge. Fundamentally, the two fields are not comparable. I like to play quizzes for fun, I consider my general knowledge good, but I certainly couldn't profit from the games in anything like the way I do from fruits. I reject the fact that fruit players are "relying"on an exploit to make money; as it just something else to look for. However, given the limited amount of play quizzes receive, there isn't loads of money to go round!

I see that all just falling under an umbrella of pragmatism. Whilst it is great to be able to hold your moral bar a little higher and say that you would never do that, if that could have made you some cash - for the amount of real world risk involved, it would've been worth it.

Lets face it, from an outside point of view, they probably think you're doing something anyway. It is always the results that breed the suspicion.

You are right stubble its a grey area the exploitation of machines. The glitches have been known in the past to be deliberately put there by the programmer , and what constitutes a deliberately dishonest act that generally is up to the individual to decide on although attacking the hopper with a crowbar is a step too far in anybodys book.
One glitch on more than one occasion concerns resetting the machine by just switching it off and on. A landlord rumbled the ruse when he said his machines lights were going on and off more than the lights on a christmas tree and it was in July! The 2 guys in question got a lifetime ban but the machine was letting them do it so is it out and out dishonest , sympathy for the publican but the blame lies at the doors of the games producers?

How about an annual awards ceremony for the best scams ................
The O.B.E , the Order of the British Emptier
Dont think we would be visiting Buckingham Palace to receive it although a few players might be visiting their local police station for an interview.
