Its odd how some players have a condescending and sneering attitude to quiz machines, biting the hands that feeds them.

I agree. This "they're beneath me" type attitude completely misses the point. Quiz machines are a means to an end, nothing more, nothing less. There are far worse conventional ways to make money (typically, less of it) and with less personal freedom.

The Sheffield boy who won £27,000 in a week? Better, better stories all of them.

What about the first guy to crack Millionaires?

Surely not as in do them when on 64k, which would equate to an empty? The subdivision started about 4k or 8k then. That's 250 questions. On 16k and 32k, yes believable, as I regularly won it on 16k and occasionally on 32.

Agreed there are better, and more amusing, stories out there. I know someone who went on the run (for a ridiculously, pardon the pun, trivial reason) and spent at least six months roaming all over the country living in b&bs doing Barquests, Inquizitors and Turnovers before finally facing up to the consequence of his actions. The comedy lies in the details, which out of discretion I won't reveal

A certain bug combination on a long-deceased machine? Not sure the earning rate would be quick enough even if you worked out how to set it up consistently (nor that there would be enough of them within ready distance - that's 400 hoppers on what I'm thinking of). PM if still sensitive.. lol.. Giant arcade with 800 Tetrises? Outside of original Super Gold Run it's the only conventional SWP game I can think of where you could hypothetically do £400 ph.

Some great names from the past there...
My favourite tale from the old days concerns a couple of well known players who had a landlord phone the Police and allege that they'd broken into his machine by ripping the back off. He took the number of their car and later that day as the two of them came out of a pub they were told to get down on the floor by a posse of armed Police who had a fit when they searched the car and found hundreds of pound coins. They were arrested and their homes searched and only released when they took the Police to a pub and let them watch the legal removal of all the cash in the unit. They gave them a letter to show to any other Police that stopped them.

I remember the big £10k linked game on these, thought at the time how hard would it be to get paid.

I was tailed by Police and blocked in too due to a twat of a landlord and Tom Redpath ex-player was thrown out of a pub for allegedly having a secret device within the packet of cigarettes that he had perched on the top of the machine. The single most embarassing machine moment I had was when the stand alone cleudo had just come out.I was the first customer in a pub ordered a pint of diet coke put in on top of the machine not realising there were indentations on the top of the unit so that the pint someraulted off the front of the machine covering everything in its contents.I just walked straight out of the pub without looking around.Also so impressed two women that they offered me their beds for a night, hop poles hammersmith and cygnet spencers wood!

Cheers for the clarification. The 250k split was when it was on 8k for £1; I presume he could do it readily when it split on 125k also (16k/£1). I won a lot of 20s on it but wouldn't claim to have reached that level of every game efficiency. On 8k there was no excuse really for not getting it sooner rather than later.
