Have Games Warehouse gone?
They have disappeared on here...stopped posting on their facebook page........they promised to contact me to re-compense me for the wasted days I had hanging around for them.............but nothing from them at all.
I tried to telephone them yesterday - but the phone just rang out - I don't know if it was the main number but its the number I was given for "Dr Paragon"

At least those pubs still had a machine. Round here I reckon machine numbers are at 50% of the levels they were a few years back. If a pub gets closed for refurbishment you can guarantee that the machine will have gone once it reopens.messiah wrote:Went to 5 pubs last saturday, all with at least one quizzer (obv), and only saw one "drippy couple" playing on any of them.danzo wrote:The future doesn't look bright for quiz machines.
Paragons do still get some punter play on my wide travels but the utterly desperate state of the other boxes does make you think that the other companies have all but given up the ghost - in the last couple of days I've seen a new Open edition which simply loses a lot of stuff, including the few worthwhile remaining games, and adds nothing new at all and a new Ind:e edition which really is a case of rearranging the deckchairs on the Titanic - it seems to be just a visual redesign of the already desperate set of games with possibly one or two dropped and again nothing new added. The fact that I can't remember the last time I ever had to wait for more than a minute or two to play on one of those (or on an ItBox or Gamesnet) tells you all you need to know.
I think the payout percentages need increasing. Isn't it something daft like 40% atm? I only play the machines on a casual basis but these days if I'm at a pub i'll often not bother with them. The few games we like (PMP/MOTD2/Hex/By Any Means) often seem to be so dead and offer little to no gameplay (eg, MOTD2 likes to start you with no bonuses whatsoever, a choice of 3 categories (all of which fill 1 unit) along the lines of plymouth argyle squad and fill in 0 letters on the first go. I mean come on, that's ridiculous.
Actually, my favourite one along those lines was a while back when playing stand and deliver. First word we pressed the bonus letter to be given a choice between 4 game overs for the bonus. To be fair, that was funny just because of the sheer cheek that the machine did that to us.

Don't you think the payout is higher on Pints Make Prizes and Match of the Day 2 than it is on some of the question + answer games? It would make sense for it to be so because you can play about 5 games of Pints Make Prizes in the time it takes to play Deal or No Deal once.Cf wrote:I think the payout percentages need increasing. My own personal payout percentage on Deal or No Deal has been 0% for months. I never liked the original version but at least it didn't take the 250k off you every single time without fail.

As if by magic I note that Paragon have put an update on their Facebook page today!
I shouldn't waste your energy Dave - you got treated badly, and have made that very clear, but I doubt they'll be minded to compensate you further for the inconvenience! Take solace from your having publicised it all on here.
I agree it's been quiet on here lately but I'm not sure I share the general view that the industry is going to hell in a handcart:
- Like them or loathe them, but Paragon have been producing lots of new titles over the last 6 months or so, including a number that are really pretty worthwhile.
- I've also seen a couple of recent issue Gamesnets with some interesting looking titles on, although haven't had time to play any of them in great detail yet.
- I do agree, though, that itBox shows no signs of emerging from its torpor, and it does look a bit like Gamestec are not really doing updates for their itBoxes any more.
- The movement from the Open stable has been downhill lately - quite a lot of new titles, one or two of which have a bit of promise, but generally they are spoilt by heavy-handed use of spoilers. One promising sign I note is seeing a few Opens in reconditioned other cabinets - played one in an Ind:e cabinet last night, and have seen a couple (called something like Hotwire?) in Paragon cabinets.
- KUDOS I completely agree seem to be regressing. I too had the misfortune of seeing the five-title one recently - come on guys, that's just rubbish in the modern multi-title era. A pity when the initial line-up on KUDOS machines looked so promising.
- and as for Ind:e - come in, your time is up. It feels like it's been months since I've seen one (I haven't been playing much, mind), and the move to the "categorisation by game-type" menu (which coincidentally also saw every worthwhile title leave the machine) was utterly retrograde.

Haven't seen much new about lately, although haven't particualrly noticed machines disappearing, apart from when pubs disappear.
From a personal point of view I shall give Hotwire a wide berth, but only because it's not running Pub Quiz for some reason.
Still plenty of money out there in machines though. I hear there is a very good player down in the South West absolutely cleaning up on a certain game which shall remain nameless whlist I investigate further. He must have some talent.

Stupid punters. Telly all the week, screw the wife Saturday
Looks like we have awoken them up !!
Not only have they updated their facebook but they have deleted my comments about them on there.........
I put a new comment on about how they basically wasted my time and let me down badly and I inferred that they couldn't give a toss - and they replied..............."Yeah looks like it"
Very professional Games Warehouse - why not dig yourself a deeper hole !!
