Is it just me or do few games bother advertising jackpot amounts now?

Maybe I'm just being stupid and not reading the rules thoroughly enough but I think they tend to say "play on to increase your prize" or some other non-commital phrase. Is this so that the "jackpot" amount can be changed, I wonder.

Examples are Mouse Trap, 'new' Monopoly Deluxe, 'new' Battleships, Guess Who and possibly 20th Anniversary Trivial Pursuit and Bullseye.

In Guess Who, I've had games where the prize up jumps to £5 on the first card but despite playing on for a decent while, no more prize ups were offered. If I knew the jackpot was £6 I wouldn't risk playing on once my try agains were used, but I may be prepared to risk it if I thought £10 or £20 was "available" (in practice I've always taken the £5).

I suppose it makes a change from stupid/impossible jackpots being advertised (original battleships / hangman - both "£40"), but it would still be nice if they showed you what you could've won.

I may have jackpotted 3 of the 6 games I have listed above, but I genuinely don't know!!

Interesting point - is this even legal? you certainly wouldn't get a fruit machine with an unspecified jackpot.

Ahhhhhh. In Belfast last weekend. Inspired by UP's successes on Guess Who, I decided to have a tickle.

It was playing reasonably well. You can imagine my delight when I was baw-deep in a game and got offered a "YES. CORRECT GUESS", pointing me towards the only bead-headed person on the board. I didn't think that not collecting a "PRIZE UP" bonus en route would be an obstacle to collecting a prize. Triumphantly, I prodded the appropriate bitch (and not before glancing about to make sure somebody was watching), only to be congratulated for my foresight and intelligence with a message "Well done. You've won" and zero spondulicks forthcoming. Underwhelmed doesn't really describe my disappointment.

At the time, my mind was racing with witty putdowns for quiz machines that obviously take the piss. Sadly, I forgot them all, but if I remember any of the time, I'll post them here.

I am seriously impressed. How on earth did you manage to track down a Guess Who in Belfast. Whenever I am in town, in between scoring goals for fun, I have made it my mission to find a Paragon that is not in need of a licence renewal!

Yeah this has happened to me. I don't think it's intentional, just a mistake by the muppet game developers.

There's one in Queen's Student Union ... a mere stone's throw from Windsor Park!

I managed what I asssume was a JP on Monopoly deluxe yesterday- basically there were no cash amounts at all on the ladder but got the points needed to get the £19 cashpot and a £4 spot prize on the way for a £23 total. Think I ened up with about 8640 points in total.

I'm sure I'm not the first but I JPed 'Deals on Wheels' tonight. Only £10 as I didn't double the prize but took an extra try again (which in the event I didn't need, but it did give me the freedom to make a series of good guesses). The final £10 was not added to what I'd won en route (about £5.60), so I just won £10. No nice animations, before UP asks.
