In which case Cool's question still stands doesn't it - how would a 14 letter word score 400, when 14 is not a factor of 400?Ernest W. Quality wrote:points = length x (sum of tile points)
Can't find the old WU thread, so I'll just make a new one
Maybe he didn't mean EXACTLY 400 points - 406 is 14 x 29 for example.
Besides, I have far more noteworthy news to report - I actually won a JP on this last night and it was for a pretty pathetic score of 1000-something, as I didn't even need to clear the screen before getting to the £10. It was on a Paragon Pro and what was even odder is that I'm pretty sure it wasn't a completely fresh installation of the machine as some of the other games looked well played. Short of getting any decent prize on Goldenballs or the £20 on 1 vs 100 I don't think my gob could have been any more smacked!

Surely the prize behaviour would have reverted to normal after giving out that freebie...fotherz wrote:Where was that, Nil?Nil Satis wrote:Besides, I have far more noteworthy news to report - I actually won a JP on this last night and it was for a pretty pathetic score of 1000-something, as I didn't even need to clear the screen before getting to the £10. I'm happy to share - it was in O'Neills in High Wycombe and I'd be very confident in saying that this was some sort of software anomaly rather than a pattern of lots of extremely keen but extremely poor Word Up players in the vicinity - there are plenty of other cabinets in the town with it on and I've not seen anything similar anywhere else.
Maybe there's just something odd about that venue - it was the place where I saw the rare DOND standalone mentioned elsewhere and on Monday the same Paragon gave me an error screen that I've never seen before - after paying out circa £30 for that Word Up JP and one or two other bits and pieces a huge red X came up with some message about a hopper error and that was that. It also hosts what must be one of the most annoying and cliquey pub quizzes I've ever witnessed - well worth a visit if any of you are connoisseurs of bad pub quizzes (unlikely I know

it took me about a minute to hook up ZEPTOSECOND (insert own megaretardation joke here) but it has given me some small joy.
it is not just a Z word, it has a certain elegance: say it, roll it around your mouth, it is a beautiful thing.
the "second" finishes in a moment but the Z and the P have to be overpronounced.

nobody ever wins on those things.
