Very nice work. I got IRRATIONALITY and RECOLLECTIONS in Debden today, as well as an EMBEZZLEMENTS on a new second machine at Liverpool St Spoons (which had been pre-owned by a 'TP' with 1650ish and 9 other scores before I dumped a 1954 at the top of the board).unknownpseudonym wrote:INVISIBILITIES 504 at the 3 crowns on jermyn street.
word up gossip
I know it's not great compared to some of you but I was pleased with this...

No wonder I drink!
£15 profit is an achievement if you ask me
...
Even though i was playing machines that were gagging for it, once you get to the £5-£8 up mark the machines just die.
Bullseye offering 701 for example, with the bullseye being 25 all the time.
And some of the other games are just a joke, allthough i did find the old version of bullseye

I've been known to play a few WU machines round Glasgow.
However, I'm not sure if my WU prowess would stand up well to scrutiny. I'm still not even close to surpassing the 2,000 point mark. The difference in dictionaries has really come back to bite me on the arse.
Managed to find a "FATBOX" machine in a pub beside Buchanan St Underground the other day. 300 points for £1. Yet again, screen calibration was up the left... quite literally. Still managed to win £4, though I was lucky to even get that.[/quote]

WORD UP WORLD TITLE CHALLENGE BELT SINGLES FINAL III
The most exciting one-on-one battle so far in Word Up. Here's what happened between Unknown Pseudonym and Vajinal Bob:
player that went first mentioned first
Game 1: VB: 1335 UP: 1707 1-0 to UP
Prefight kidology from UP led me to believe that his clearing skills were rusty. Nick-of-time endgaming told otherwise.
2: UP: 1213 VB: 1337 1-1
Steady wordfinding (as ever
) from me levelled things, but my pre-clear prep was looking shoddy.
3: VB: 1440 UP: 1605 2-1 to UP
4: UP: 1868 VB: 1105 (theoretically unclearable grid) 3-1 to UP
Top score of the tie from UP. Terrible grid for me added insult to injury.
5: UP: 1221 VB: 1401 3-2 to UP
Somehow managing not to brick it completely.
6: VB: 1792 UP: 1114 3-3
A beautiful RAPSCALLIONS from UP buggered his pre-clearing and thankfully stuffed any chance of beating my score.
7: VB: 1661 UP: 1623 4-3 to VB
Concentrated on clearing, as did UP. VB retains the title.
Clears: VB: 2 UP: 4
Ave. scores (not including bonuses): VB: 1296 UP: 1193
This was a nail-biting match, with both players performing very well under tremendous pressure. Could have gone either way - well done to UP for some awesome word-finding and superb clearance play.

appropriately the WU title fight was contested yards from where ruffians used to have bare knuckle championships. a strong start from myself but erratic thereafter. Bob's composure held to record a (begrudgingly) deserved defence. we have each played better but the standard was pretty high over 14 games; bedazzled onlookers watched agape as we traded clearances.
a joint effort of 2004 and various 18+s afterwards render st james's in London a blitzed hinterland.
i'm off to lick my wounds.

nobody ever wins on those things.
Of course - however, I think, for the sake of variety, there should be two further rules regarding title fights:Mattb wrote: I hope the honourable Bob will give UP a rematch!
1) there must be an interval of at least a week between one fight and the next (to prevent series of matches being played in a row leading to devaluation).
2) the same match-up can not be played twice in a row (so someone else will have to lose to me (

These rules are added to the others regarding title fights:
3) all challenges must be accepted by the champion
4) the champion is strongly advised to accede to a request to play from a challenger on the champion's home turf, should it be received. Otherwise, the champion should be prepared to travel to defend his crown.
5) it is the champion's duty to bear him or herself with the decency, decorum and unashamed stratospheric self-regard that befits the WORLD'S BEST AT WORD UP.
