In my experience end game at 5000 means its readily ascertainable but would not say that getting 5000 is almost certain endgame. Many of the machines I have seen it typically hovers between 5250 and 6000 with the latter being quite a regular target.stuart4010 wrote:Faired not too bad off this one, 5000 points seems to be the almost certain endgame, and I sneaked £1.50 from the Cashpot too. A great game for a group of folk to play, but there's a lot of early questions to get through before you get close to the required points total.
I think the better indication of what kind of mood the machine is in is how many try agains and deeds you start off with.
Starting with 4 deeds is pretty stingy but 6 deeds means the machine could be willing to pay and you are more likely to get hotels etc.
Again by the same token it is usually tough with 1 try again, very do-able with 2, and if you're lucky enough to start with 3 try agains you really shouldn't fail.

Sue Denim.
Paragon can handle Monopoly. Whether or not Paragon end up with that the game from Games Media a competitor, is another matter.
I will post a league table for a month last year of top 20 games. As no game table information is in public domain, that I am aware of, I need to consider carefully and not post a recent one.

I'm actually starting to go off Monopoly. Its a very pretty game with some nice features, but (I'm probably stupid) I'm not getting to end games anywhere near most of you guys. One in 30-35 I'd say.
And my average is probably about £4.
Also, Ive had points targets of 4500 - 6000 and found that I probably make the end game more often than not on the higher target.
I'll still play it because all in all its one of the more well produced games but its just starting to bore. Just a little bit.

I'm not a great fan of Monopoly although I'll always give it a game. Without keeping QuizMaster style records I probably reach about one endgame in five or six, at most, and my average prize on an endgame is probably somewhere between £1 and £1.50, so all in all it's far from a money-spinner.
Had an interesting experience earlier when the game did it's absolute damnedest to prevent me from getting to the endgame. It quickly gave me three tries again and two passes and I thought I was a made man. I was answering well and got within 200 or so of the target when I got a long string of hotel repairs, go to jails and income taxes. Funnily enough in the middle of that I also got two further tries again which took me to four! Anyway, I got to the endgame eventually, just to spite it really as I knew I'd get 50p and indeed I did.
I'm not at all surprised to hear it's supplanted DOND though. From a look at scoreboards it's very well-played indeed by everyone from Joe Public up to some of the better players (perhaps even the "real boys" at some venues). It does slightly surprise me, as like RossKeen I don't think it's that great a game, either for Joe Public (too hard to reach endgame) or Joe Professional (too low a chance of decent prize).

while i don't disagree with Grecian or Ross, both presuppose that the only reason to play SWP is for financial gain. i have noticed a lot of people who are happy to tootle away on a quiz machine with their mates while having a pint.
outside of this forum there are very, very few people who ever press the collect button on these things.
a lot of people treat (what they don't know is called) SWP as a social activity, much like going to a pub quiz or doing karaoke with a bunch of friends. of course, the majority of these people are klutzes which is why we can pay for our drinks from SWP winnings and maybe a taxi home on a good day.
as a cornerstone of british society the pub has always had pseudo-skill gambling.
going way back: cockfighting, prize-fight/allcomers' boxing
more recently dominoes, shove ha'penny, bar billiards
and now SWP/AWP

ooohhh, got a £9 cahpot today
if you'd asked me last month i would have estimated the payout at nowhere near 30% after a long series of hard-fought 50p's but i think it's creeping up a bit and i'm getting the odd 3/4/5 quid.
is it possible the programmers have realised they can actually afford to give a little back due to its overwhelming gameplay?

Heh-heh - whereas a lot of the guys on here are more 'Oxford Street' with the occaisional 'Mayfair' thrown in.
I'm still having good results on this - I'd say that my averages are:
- 1 end game for every 5-6 played
- £4.00 prize
Which, of course, means a profit, or at least another pint!
A point that may not be so obvious, but on the 'Go' game, the green set is worth the most points (960, I think?) I assume that as it's easier to find a pair of matching cards (Parklane / Mayfair) than 3 matching cards, you get rewarded better for the latter. Also, with the 'stand back' technique, you should never miss them...

"And do you ever contradict yourself, Minister?" "Well, yes and no..."
