a man after my own heart Cool. scrabble is what you make it, it can be enjoyable if you worry more about words than what they score. but all too often your opponent ruins that by playing QI with the Q on a tls  it rewards cretinism. then next go it is XU  no thought was given to the elegant play of QUINcUNX.

neither of these is a proper word yet both are in the top 20 most-played words in tournament scrabble. this is amongst those who are the top of their game.

obv no disrespect to anyone, i admire anyone who reaches the top whether it be in canoe polo, industry, speed-typing on the dvorak keyboard or the coconut chorus.

but i suspect this belongs in another thread.

Scrabulous may have to be taken off Facebook:

Cue much wailing and gnashing of teeth (me included!).

That was me - and it was 171!

I think that the double-clearance is possible, but will require flawless stabbing and good board packing.

a double clearance would be something else. but can you really go that quickly? i am plodding along behind with 99s

if and when WU returns to the shitbox, i hope they don't add a supplementary grid, that would throw the scoring out and there is no need to gild the lily.

re. the couple in finchley: could be one of the HULLs avec oiseau or ROBIERICHI?

also, thanks Bob for raiding the piggy bank at the MB&B before i'd got to it. git. ;)

I've had a couple of 99s now.

My best prize is £5.10 which is probably a bit crap but I can't work out a good strategy for the end game. At the moment I panic and hack away like a crazy person.

I've managed to clear 139 tiles now, although I suspect I'll peter out around 150. A double clearance would be genuinely astonishing.

Is the target ever higher than 99?

I've never seen a target bigger than that, though I believe Istenem begs to differ.

176 tiles today - hand speed is quicker and am thinking ahead better but still fluffed several times.
